I have chronic plantar fasciitis. The short of it is, that my feet are always hurting. I'm seeing a podiatrist, so I don't need any medical advice about it. What I would like to know is what your favorite extremely low impact exercise is. I'm looking to start to up my exercise in the next couple of weeks. I'm thinking of taking a spinning class, and not doing all the standing portions. Any other suggestions?

Been there. I used to be a middle-distance runner (10 km) and developed the same thing. Hurts like a sonofagun!

 

Try swimming. It's easier on all your joints and is a great workout.

Yeah, and I've had it for almost 4 years. Sigh... I don't even remember the last time I ran more than to catch a connection at an airport.

 

Anyway, swimming sounds good, just gotta get over the fears of the bathingsuit!!:o

I've had it & continue to do so on & off, mostly off these days. For me it was shoes - I was wearing a lot of pull on boots or slip on shoes & I do a lot of walking. My podiatrist said when walking to wear only shoes that lace up with at least 4 pairs of eye-holes - seems to have worked for me.

 

Oh - & I don't know about the genetic aspect of it but out of a family of five, three of us suffer from it.

Gee, what gave you that idea? ;-)

 

I used to be, but haven't really done any real ballet since undergrad, 5 years ago. I swing dance now though. I actually go the first occurance of the plantar faciitis while doing step aerobics.

Im not really knowledgible on this topic, but I do know alot of Basketballers suffer from this injury.

 

Is it treatable? Cause alot of these guys continue to play after being diagnosed with it.

 

But im guessing that since they are worth millions they have expert treatment on a daily basis.
