Wedded25 Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Hello. I'm asking about an old and crude form of "computer" dating in miniature. In the mid- to late 70's, a department store in the city I grew up in sold a gold-toned pendant with a three-digit numeric display and a circular contact surface. Upon purchase, you'd mail the manufacturer your responses to a list of questions, then in a few weeks receive the pendant "programmed" with them. Upon touching its contact surface with that of another user's pendant, the resulting numbers on both supposedly indicated your compatibility. Alas, I know no further details (list and format of questions, etc.) Does anyone here remember this? Thanks -- Wedded25 Quote
MsJayne Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Never heard of anything like that here in Australia, but I would guess that it was probably about as accurate as today's dating apps. Quote
Sanch62 Posted September 27 Posted September 27 (edited) So I guess the idea would be to walk around in real life, hoping to see another one of the pendants on somebody? If it was 'all the rage' and nearly every single person wore one (like mood rings!) then it might have been a fun way to connect with others. As for today, such a thing might serve as a vintage relic if someone is into collecting that stuff, but otherwise, just finding someone wearing the pendant would be like a needle in a haystack. Unless! Maybe they have a dating site for only people who take the quiz? Hmmm, I think they all do that today, don't they? Edited September 27 by Sanch62 Quote
