They say you can lose up to 14lbs in 7 days on this eating plan combined with mild exercise.

Anyone tried it? I am sure there's a lot of people against it here, I must admit - I'm a bit curious as to whether the weight stays off after you ease onto more solid foods again. Or whether it comes back with a vengeance :D

Every 'diet' can help you lose weight. Some help you lose lots of weight. However what got you fat was your lifestyle and eating habits so unless you change those, you'll just get fat again.

The ONLY way (proven by a ton of studies) to lose weight and keep it off is to WANT it bad enough that you are willing to change your life - eat the good foods, control portions, and exercise.

In short, if you're too lazy to do what's needed, you can't lose the weight and expect it will stay off.

And yoyo dieting is VERY bad for your whole body.

the avg person has to reduce their caloric intake by 3,000 to 3,500 calories to lose one pound. Do the math....its almost impossible to lose 2 lbs per day short of cutting of body parts.

You maybe able to lose 14lbs in a week if you exercise for 10 hrs per day and don't eat or drink anything for seven days straight.

Yeah I am familiar with how to lose weight and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. I am quite athletic and health conscious. :o

I was more aiming the question at whether this is all water weight and by anyone's personal experience if it all came back the week after.

Some people 'cleanse' their bodies with juice fasts, fruit and vegetable and lots of water, this sounds similar. I imagine this would help you 'kick start' your weight loss program. I don't know that I would count on the 14 lbs and I would think a certain amount of the weight loss would be 'water weight'. I'd get terribly bored eating nothing but cabbage soup three meals a day for a week.

When you deprive your body of whole food groups, your body craves the missing nutrients. Probably best to continue to eat from all food groups in moderation, up your activity level and reduce the junk food.

I've never lost more than a few pounds at a time using this method myself - plus it can give you tremendous gas.

I'm on a soup diet. At least that's my name for it, but it's not anything like the cabbage soup diet. Mine is just that I eat soup and salad (no dressing) for lunch. The reason is, there aren't very many calories in broth soups, so it's an easy convienent way for me to control calorie intake. But I eat cereal for breakfast, and a variety of stuff in the 600 calorie range for dinner.

The first week I lost 6lbs. I also cut out sugary drinks. I went to a conference the next week and wasn't able to prepare my own food and gained back 2.5 lbs. Now I'm on my soup diet again for the next 3 days, and then I'm headed back out of town. I just hope I can be in town enough to hit my target weight. It's sooo hard to control what you eat when you are eating out for every meal!!

maybe Ill try this, soup and dressingless salad for lunch.I usually do grape nuts w/ plain yogurt and raisins for bfeakfast .But what for dinner? What is in the 600 cal . range???

Since I'm getting hungry, I'll be glad to answer, of course these are some of my favorites:

1/4 lb of pasta with tomato sauce. Knor sauce has the fewest calories (of my favorite sauces) if you divide the amount of olive oil in half, which is actually better, otherwise it's greasy. If I'm using Knor sauce I can also have a bit of pamasean cheese. With Ragu, I go without the cheese.

Grilled chicken with a rub instead of marinade. (most rubs don't contribute significant calories) Half a can of green beans, and half a small bag of spicy saffron rice. (There are two of us that eat together, can you tell?)

Small filet of Salmon with lemon pepper/lemon juice. Frozen mixed veggies. I usually have rice again.

12 Tuna/Salmon sushi rolls. Small, like the kind you get at the grocery store. I actually think these are more around 400 calories, so I have a snack during the day.

You will probably hear that it's better to have a bigger meal at lunch time, which is probably true, but my weakest point is when I'm at home and there is food at my disposal. It doesn't pay to be hungry when I can open the cupboard and make myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich (approx. 400 calories by the way). Also, I use spinach instead of lettuce in my salad and put lemon juice on it. Much tastier, but then again I don't really like lettuce.

Hope this helps. I'd love to have someone doing this diet with me!

Does anyone have any comments about the health/non-health of such a diet?

It's V. Interesting. I don't want/need to lose any weight though a close friend has been eating this stuff for a few days now. I will be interested to see of her results.

I would question the healthiness of this 'diet' unless a person is filling in gaps with baked veggies and fresh fruits and some form of protein etc.

Good Luck Bab :)

The only way to do it is to make a life change. It takes four to six weeks for your body to get used to dietary changes no matter what it may be. 1500 calories is what you need to shed a week to lose one pound, prefered method is to work it off pysically. The first ten days of weight loss is yes... water weight. And no, do NOT cut out your carbs, they are needed for energy throughout the day just don't eat the empty simple sugar carbs. If you don't eat the carbs, your body will burn muscle stores instead. All you really need to do is follow the nutritional food pyramid and I can gaurantee you will be fine if you just add a little activity daily. Even walking the dog and it would be something they also need! I have changed my life habits, it's taken a while but I now know (through school) what it takes. The process takes a while but you will be very happy with the results in the long run. Live healthy and good luck to you all on your healthy changes.

nearly ten years ago, i re-adjust my diet and get involved with more activities and shred off approximately 70 lbs over three years; but I gained about 10 lbs in the remaining years...well I'm still 60 lbs less.

so it IS possible to lose weight,as long as you put in effort.

initially i went ahead with a soup-diet (lasted 3 weeks) and since then i ate more, but i actually stop snacking on chips or any other tidbits for three years. now i do snack, but not excessively.

good stuff here. When you lose weight quickly it is almost always water weight. So you really aren't losing anything, you are just dehydrating yourself. This weight can come back just as quick as you lose it.

fad diets are no excuse for solid eating and an active lifestyle. Even the Atkins diet wasn't intended for people to use and maintain. It was designed for his cardiac patiets to lose weight quickly before surgery. Not to bring people to a healthy weight and maintain them there

I have heard of it- along with the grapefruit diet, which i tried unsuccessfully, i might add.The whole time i was on this grapefruit thing I was sooooo miserable, this probably being from the fact that the diet had no carbs, which we need for serotonin reasons, and i also stopped taking my antidepressants that week, and the reason i went on the grapefruit thing in the first place was because i had gained 20 pounds on the antidepressants!so, i don't really know whats involved in the soup diet, but just watch that it doesn't make you miserable and moody like i was, i think if that happens then the diet can't be too good for you.Good luck with whatever you choose, and if you are successfull at anything let me know! i still need to get those 20 pounds offa me!!!

it is possible to lose 14lbs in one week, as i've done it. i'm not a promoter of any kind and don't suggest you try it unless your willing to put in the effort.

it does take a lot of work, not just cutting out alot of food but doing ALOT of exercise to burn off fat, but when you so this diet, you don't just burn off fat, you burn muscle. so i had to lose the weight then muscle train afterwards.

i didn't eat cabbage soup and watercress either, i ate beans on toast twice a day. it may not seem like alot but it worked for me, so i recommend you pick a food you like and stick with it for as long as it takes.

i was a real big guy and the bigger you are the harder it is, but remember the bigger you are the quicker it goes.

at one stage when i lost over 4 stone, i went onto losing nearly 20 lbs in one week as i had so much energy because my weight and cholesterol wasn't a factor. that week i must have done over 40 hours of exercise.

you WILL have to arrange an eating plan for when you want to come off this diet as you do pile the pounds back on. but my weight has stayed off and it was all my own plan and routine.
