lilmoma1973 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 As many of you know i had made a post about getting a new stove, and was wondering about the eyeless stoves, and what is the expierence .Well h and i went to look at them still having doubts now ..What i am wanting to know what's the difference in self cleaning and not .. We was told that if you get a self cleaning stove your heating element goes out quicker ,than if you didn't have a self cleaning one.. The self cleaning is alittle more and h said there really is no difference.. What is the difference ? What would you rather have self cleaning or no self cleaning ?
Art_Critic Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Eyeless stoves ?? what are they ? I can't help you as I don't cook.. I do have 2 stoves and 3 ovens in my house but with the exception of one of them that I use to heat pizza the others are still brand new and have never been turned on
Author lilmoma1973 Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 A_C the stoves with the glass top !!
Art_Critic Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Ahh... I have one of those in my second kitchen.. But I have never turned it on.... I like the look of it though.. the glass and the granite have the same tones and looks great..They compliment each other
Author lilmoma1973 Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 Yeah they are nice but had my doubts with the cleaning of it and all ..I have heard different things that it harder to clean and carmelizes ,and need to clean immediately ,and take longer to cool down because of glass!! Special cleaner that you have and ss is 15 likes to cook and waits till he is done eating to clean .. I guess more of a headache for the looks of it!!
Art_Critic Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 mine came with a special cleaner called cerama bryte and a cleaning pad.. I've never used it..
Author lilmoma1973 Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 That's the stuff A_ C that i am talking about..Why you never use it?
Art_Critic Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 That's the stuff A_ C that i am talking about..Why you never use it? Because I never use the stove it is new but almost 5 years old
Author lilmoma1973 Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 I'm not talking about the cleaner ,i am talking about your stove !! You have all them appliances and never use them .. What a waste .. I will take it since you not using the stove and that way i don't have to buy one!!

Author lilmoma1973 Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 Makes sense now why you you don't cook much !!
Outcast Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Are you sure that the top self-cleans? If that's the case, I imagine it will do so the way ovens self-clean - by burning all the gunk off. That will take a lot of electricity, I figure. Really, as long as you wipe the spills right away, cleaning shouldn't be the issue. I'd be much more concerned about how well it cooks if I were you.

No the top don't self clean it is the oven that does that.. I was just wondering what people thought the differnence in self cleaning oven and not !!
Outcast Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Self-cleaning ovens are fine but it takes quite a while and uses up a lot of electricity. But if you get spills often and never clean the oven, it might be good to have so that the oven doesn't get totally gross.

Yeah you have a good point ..My h said i didn't need a self cleaning one so he can clean the damn thing then!@
jen_jen_heartbroken Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Is it still a gas stove, or an electric one? I hate electric stoves.
jen_jen_heartbroken Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 I'm all about the crock pot. Cook a huge meal while you're out or at work, have yummy leftovers for days. And now they have these bag liners you can put in them so that clean-up is non-existant.
Author lilmoma1973 Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 Is it still a gas stove, or an electric one? I hate electric stoves. It is electric don't want to deal with gas stove ,we have all electric stuff and ss cooks when we aren't home !!
Gold Pile Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 I have glass smooth top, electric. If the junk sets up on surface, it is harder to clean later. I have used windex instead of the special cleaner. It looks great and eliminates cleaning under burners.
Author lilmoma1973 Posted January 16, 2006 Author Posted January 16, 2006 I got my eyeless stove yesterday and i love it !! We cooked in it last night made chicken pie and it cooked in no time.. It is a self cleaning one also it also has a big glass window to look through. My other stove i couldn't do that.
Mz. Pixie Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I'm glad you got the self cleaning one. Yeah, it does take a while to do it- I usually set mine to do overnight. You don't have to clean it that often if you're not messy. Probably every 4-5 months. You would think the razorblade would scatch it but it doesn't if you're careful.
Author lilmoma1973 Posted January 17, 2006 Author Posted January 17, 2006 Thanks Mz.Pixie ,i love my new stove and it is a Whirlpool very nice !! I am so paranoid of ruining it that drivng my h insane oh well he will live lol!! Ours came with a Whirlpool cleaner so we will probably use that instead of that other Cementade..
Lil Honey Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I'm just surprised that you have a 15-year-old boy that cleans up after himself. I had a self-cleaning oven in the house that I left behind. It does take a while for it to clean and it does take a lot of energy, but I would bake something (like dinner or dessert) in it in the evening, then when the food was done, I'd turn it on to clean. That way, the oven was already hot, so it wouldn't take as long to get it hot enough to clean and it saved energy by being over half way to the clean temperature.

He doesn't clean up after himself that is why im stressing about it.. You have to stay on him to do anything around the house and he wants to cook just don't want to clean up!! I will have to remember that after i cook if it gets dirty Lil thanks for the advice..
