Agent M Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Hi! A date offered me some speed and I don't know what drug it is or what it's all about these days. Please advise! Quote
basil67 Posted August 30 Posted August 30 according to drugs.com Speed (methamphetamine) Common or street names: Crystal meth, Crank, Meth, Ice, Glass, Go Fast, Fire, Crypto, Chalk, Speed What is methamphetamine (speed)? Speed (methamphetamine, C10H15N) is a potent and addictive central nervous system stimulant, chemically related to amphetamine, but with greater central nervous system side effects. It is a white, odorless, bitter-tasting powder that easily dissolves in water or alcohol. Methamphetamine is classified as a Schedule II stimulant by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), which means it has a high potential for abuse and is available legally only by prescription. When abused, it is commonly referred to as “speed”, “meth”, or “chalk” and has been in use since the early 1960s. When abused, methamphetamine is usually smoked, snorted, injected, or taken orally. Medically, methamphetamine has been used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obesity, but these uses are limited in the U.S. due to the high potential for abuse, addiction, and channeling to illicit drug markets. Prescription doses are typically much lower than those used illegally. In the U.S., methamphetamine is available by prescription as the brand name product Desoxyn or generically. Only the 5 mg oral tablet is available. Methamphetamine is cheap and easy to make from common ingredients. Most of the illegal methamphetamine in the U.S. comes from foreign or domestic superlabs, although small batches may be made in residencies or other clandestine buildings called “meth labs”, often using the nasal decongestant pseudoephedrine. Pseudoephedrine can only be purchased from behind the pharmacy counter now in the U.S., and in limited quantities with an identification. This law is enforced to help curb abuse and keep a record of the purchaser. How is speed abused? Methamphetamine (speed) may be abused by: inhaling or smoking swallowing snorting through the nose injection. Another common form of the drug is crystal methamphetamine, or “crystal meth”, which is clear, chunky crystals resembling ice. Crystal meth is smoked in a manner similar to crack cocaine and became popular in the 1980s. Street names for this form of methamphetamine include “ice”, “crystal”, “crank”, and “glass”. What are the effects of speed? Immediately after smoking or intravenous (IV) injection, the user experiences an intense sensation, often called a "rush", which lasts only a few minutes and is usually described as extremely pleasurable. Oral or intranasal use produces euphoria or a high, but not an intense rush. Snorting methamphetamine will lead to effects within 3 to 5 minutes, whereas oral ingestion takes 15 to 20 minutes. Common, immediate effects of methamphetamine abuse include: increased activity and body temperature wakefulness talkativeness faster breathing increased concentration decreased appetite elevated blood pressure rapid heart rate increased libido (sex drive) a sense of well-being. Some users become addicted quickly, and abuse it with increasing frequency and doses. As the pleasurable effects of methamphetamine disappear, abusers may use more and more of the drug to get the same effect. Using methamphetamine many times over a period of several days, usually without food or sleep, is often called a “run”. 1 Quote

Different than back in the day when I'm sure it wasn't meth (1980"s). The only other thing I'm wondering...it was in 1x1 square pieces of aluminum foil. Does that sound familiar to anyone? Quote

Alpacalia Posted August 31 Posted August 31 I'm not a drug user either. I would caution you about dating someone offering drugs. Plus, you don't know if it's laced with something like Fentanyl which you could OD/die from from just taking it once (regardless of the dose). 2 1 Quote

This is very common, small purchases of harder drugs usually come in a mini-envelope made out of foil or a tiny snap-lock plastic bag. If you're in the US you should read up on the use of Fentanyl in the local illicit drug trade, the high incidence of it, and the number of deaths attributed to it. Definitely don't ingest anything like this offered to you by someone you hardly know, because even if they're not planning to kill you they're definitely looking to give you something that will change your behaviour, possibly in a way you wouldn't feel good about. 1 Quote
Carlston Posted August 31 Posted August 31 How about you just say "No thanks i don't do drugs". Rather than trying to figure out how messed up you might get. Quote
ShySoul Posted September 2 Posted September 2 If date is offering you drugs, probably not a sign it's going to be serious or good for you - the drug or the relationship. Say no and don't look back. As someone who has watched people's life be messed up with drugs, and even got them killed, just best to not be involved with it. 1 Quote
MissCMadness Posted September 2 Posted September 2 If your not a drug user id stay away from him, bad news! Will not end well 1 Quote

I did say no but was wondering how heavy “speed” is - when I was in high school it was crushed up diet pills that contained caffeine… Quote
