My partner of over 2 years, randomly text me “we’re done”. With no explanation. The day before I treated him to a musical and dinner. I just messaged him back saying “ok”

Next day after being dumped he messages saying “good morning”. What shall I do?

Don't answer him.  Wait for an explanation.  He sounds disturbed.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say...... why don't you try asking him "what did you mean by that 'we're done' text?"  And not via text, but a phone call or better yet, in person.

Don't the two of you communicate beyond two-word text messages?

Texting “we’re done” is weird, but your “ok” reply is even stranger. Aren’t you the least bit curious why he told you that? Are you sure he was really dumping you? What if he was referring to some project he was doing with someone? Maybe he was drunk? Maybe he accidentally sent to you a message intended for someone else, maybe a partner in crime with whom he no longer wants to associate (“we’re done when I say we’re done”)?  Maybe a jealous ex snatched his phone and sent that?

I am going to guess there is alot more to this than you have shared.

What problems existed priror to this? Have you two broken up  before?

yeah seems to lack a lot of context.  we're done is quite vague.

we're done eating dinner?

we're done taking pottery class?

we're done with the bathroom remodel?

we're done at the restaurant we are at right now?

how is it immediately you know "we're done" means he's dumping you?
