My_Other_I Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I've read some advices that suggest to get a PI. I am just curious as how far can the PI go? What are the laws/rules when it comes to privacy and rights of the investigated person? What is the average price range? How useful are the results besides proving whether or not he/she is guilty?
JadeStar Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 The best thing to do is type in Private Investigators in the google search and it will tell you what can expect. Different PI's charge different prices depending on what you want done and for how long. You might also want to contact local PI's in your area, some offer like a free consultation to give you a better understanding of what you may be dealing with if you go that route. Jade
Astarte Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Guilty ? If you think a crime happened or happens, I'd leave that up to the police and not start something myself.
JadeStar Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Probably guilt about something a person did, not really a crime so to speak, but something such as guilty for cheating perhaps. Jade
Astarte Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Guilty for cheating...life is neither black and white nor has a story only one side.
JadeStar Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Understandable, but sometimes there are people who go the PI route because they feel they can't get the info they need from a person who might be doing something they shouldn't. Just because one person doesn't see it fit to hire one, doesn't mean others wont. Hopefully the OP will come back and let us know what they are wanting one for exactly. Jade
lilmoma1973 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Don't know about PI's but im sure they can find information that a every day joe can't ,because they are know what they are doing ,so if you feel that a PI is in order than you do just that...

What are the laws/rules when it comes to privacy and rights of the investigated person? What is the average price range? How useful are the results besides proving whether or not he/she is guilty? I hired a PI and have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I got undeniable proof of their meetings. On the other hand, the quality of video was crappy and the law prohibits them from taping anywhere except in public. No audio (also illegal). So I still have no proof of physical intimacy, which she continues to deny, although I do have proof of deceit. Ironically, she is angry with me for hiring a PI (it was expensive -- more than we could really afford) and though she admits deceiving me about meeting him, claims I completely overreacted. It was enough that I got her to agree never to see him again, but I will probably never know exactly the extent of their involvement. If I had it to do again, I would have followed them myself and spent the money on my own camcorder.
Kat2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 They are expense. I agree Google for one in your area–unless unless R long distant, then go for one “in the area”–cuts down on travel expenses for you for the PI. I did not want nor need pictures/ video. I already had enough evidence (and admissions) to substantiate if need be in the event of a D. I was more interested in background and to qualify in as much as possible different versions of the truth. Turns out OW was lying and he was being evasive, I suspect to protect both our feelings. Which might be giving his feelings for Ow way to much credit, but that's just my subjective opinion. I have no remorse for doing so. He had already admitted to the A and had broke it off with OW a month defore dd. I did not want the grungy details, I only wanted to confirm his reestablishing efforts of honesty.Oh yeah, it didn’t hurt either to disqualify OW delusions.
