PlantationMan Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I was born and raised in USA. I now live in Haiti. Amazing what a decade of American savings can buy here. I have a large plantation, not a large commercial farm that would make better profits. The romance of a bygone era in USA south. No guilt for the "slaves" here are eager to live and work here. Life is good for me, I keep the books maybe 5 hours a week, and patroll the grounds another 5 hours a week. My profits aren't huge, but expenses are low. I have a mini mansion of a house built in 1890's. Updated with all the comforts, though electricity is never to be counted on. There are security concerns here. I have 2 cheap security men at the Plantation. (they wouldn't take a bullet for me, but they are a deterent of sorts) The local authorities have hands in my pocket in exchange for security. I have some companionship courtesy of my house keeper. But I am a white man from the US. I long for friendship of an American woman. I think a good life can be had here, but I have no idea how to connect with women so far away. I'm tempted to advertise...I just don't know. 1

She would need to be adventuristic and nastolgic for the life of a plantation southern belle. All labor is done by others.

How does she feel about your quest for another? I'm tempted to advertise...I just don't know. The net would be cheapest way to spread the word. I don't know how you would meet each potential partner, without great expense.
Outcast Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Pretty much online dating is the only option for you. You can try to hang out with tourists though I don't know how tourism is doing there given the current state of affairs.

Fair question. This is telling of the kind of people who live here and telling of myself also. She never knew her father, her mother died too soon. Her next of kin stole what assets her mother had and withdrew the teenager from school and put her to work as a maid. The kin took all that money. Eventually she ended up in the employ of a British couple, my only friends here not from Haiti. We arranged to transfer her to my plantation where her kin wouldn't know she was. I paid her the going rate plus a room and food. She (17) was terrified of me at first. It took a long time for her to believe I wasn't after her body. She worked hard and I was the total gentleman for 2 years. She speaks and reads English and French, I gave her access to my library. She got comfortable with me and we both have sexual needs, it just sort of happened. But we are not in love. She is saving to someday leave here and start anew. She is aware that I seek a more permanent relation with a woman from back home. Tourists are very, very rare in this part of the country. "The Naked Jungle". He is a plantation owner somewhere in Africa. His only company are a worker and this boy he raised (?). He orders a bride. She arrives, he finds out she is not a virgin anymore (or that she was divorced?), so he doesn't like her anymore (because she's "used" ). He wants her to leave and then suddenly the ants from the jungle attack. She stays and helps him to fight off the ants who are eating everything that they can find and are destroying the plantation. I think in the end everything is gone, the plantation is destroyed, the other two people have been killed by the ants, and it's just him and her left. Basic Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Your adopted country is known for certain STD's. how do you deal with this? You and your Housekeeper seem to have what they call a FWB thing. I don't know what "w" stands for but the other 2 are clear enough. Ever thought of selling and returning to US? Loony, I think I saw that movie, what a ham that Heston was, and still is.

Yes Basic, diseases are rampant here. As the maid was going to in my house and handling my food etc, I did have her tested. Although literally hundreds of nice and not so nice locals are available to me, I do not partake. The risks are too great. No Basic I will not sell and return to US. I made mention of the troubles here, but I am living a romantic life straight from history. Imagin the old south in USA. Plantation owner's didn't work, they had people to do that. The only downside was if they felt guilty at how that help was obtained. My help is composed of people grateful of the opportunity and free to leave. they are slightly better compensated than other locals. It's a good life I'd like to share.
