Noone has me beat on what I did as a child when I was in it for long car rides. I'd make people from my hands (pointer finger and middle finger as legs) and thus adventure ensued.

Anyway, I have always thought that DVD players in the car was a waste of money. My personal opinion is that everyone should have a laptop and those can play DVDs effortlessly. Or rather put the couple of hundred that the DVD player costed and save towards a laptop. That's my opinion on the matter.

WHAT??? No one's mentioned the time-honored tradition of older sibs teasing and torturing and scaring younger ones as a form of amusement? :p

again, tools like DVD players have great potential as educational tools, but I just hate the idea of using it as a pacifier. You hear so many complaints about how "my kids don't talk to me, they avoid me, etc" from parents, who don't realize they encourage that behavior by creating situations in which they expect a machine impart the value of interpersonal communication. Motion sickness noted, I think reading is the "quiet-time" past time for a child, but sadly, it's a lost past-time because kids would much rather be entertained by an electronic device.
