Help!

I think I have made a grave mistake in choosing my chief bridesmaid. I chose my friend as I do like her, and she was always upset that she was never a bridesmaid for anyone else, so had promised her the role. However she has proved 100% unrelaiable and totally selfish. She never makes time for us to build a better friendship through experience, is never contactable, never returns calls until well after 1 week - 2 weeks has passed and i have no faith in her ability. She is stressing me out more than she is keeping me calm and i am running ragged trying to everything and having no one support me.

How do i tell her i don't think she is up to the job and need to find someone else?

This has been ongoing for quite some time now and i can't help but feel really let down and alone.

What do i do?

Ask her if she feels overwhelmed by these responsibilities, and point out (gently, not condescending or angry) that you need to be able to count on her to get such-and-such done by a certain date.

But if you have already determined that she's not reliable enough, then it's your call. After all, you have enough worries about your wedding. Your support system - bridesmaids and such - should be the least amount of hassle.
