Darla doll Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 trying to get over someone and I spend a lot of time listening to music. All sorts, anything that deals with break ups and getting over people. What's your favorite song about breaking up, moving on, forgetting someone special, etc?
datboispiggs Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 you want a list or the top ten. Mine are: Pillar - Bring Me Down (get chills listening to it) Rolling Stones - Can't Always Get What Ya Want Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Soul To Squeeze
Nicholas Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 I've never tried to associate music with negative emotions, for fear of losing the positive experience of listening to music. But if I had to reccomend the song that best describes losing a really powerful, formative love, it would be Angela Strehli's 'Always Love You', on her new C.D., "Blue Highway". It's a nice piece of music, and I think the lyrics do a good job about highlighting the good that can come out of situations like this.
greyhound Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Hi all. Perhaps I am a wee bit strange, but with each breakup I have had I assign a song to the breakup and the woman I have broken up with. I have in the past used Eric Claptons "Old Love", (one of my favorites), Allman Brothers "Whipping Post", (ya think that was a bad breakup, LOL), another Allman Brothers "Trouble No More" and numerous others. But for the last breakup, which was truly the most traumatic, I went back to the very simple and my previously posted favorite breakup song of all time: Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright". I know I'm showing my age, but I don't think anyone ever hit the target like that song. I'll come back and check this because i really think it is fascinating.
salmagundi Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Yeah, I have a breakup song for everybreakup I go through. My last girlfriend it was "Love Leaves its Abusers" by Songs:ohia. This time around its "Moving, Shaking" by the Great Lake Swimmers. Its a song that describes how ****ty I feel right now so well that I cant even listen to it anymore without wanting to cry like a baby. Let me think of some other good ones... salmagundi
greyhound Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Hey Sal (pardon the abbrev.) It's easier on my fingers. I've found that listening to these songs can be a test of how you are progressing. I don't put them on and play them over and over, but when I by chance hear them and can appreciate them for the great songs that they are WITHOUT THE EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT, I know I am over her. Does that make any sense?? So, keep your chin up!!!!
Brittanyjean06 Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 for the girls, i think this one is the best- its not realy a sad song,,,and thats why i like it..janis joplin- take another lil piece of my heart-
wanda1974 Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 For any woman that's ever been cheated on....the best break up song, IMO is "Silver Springs" by Fleetwood Mac. The words are awesome!!
wanda1974 Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 But then again....I would have chose "The End" by the Doors for my wedding song had I known..........
the blade Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 mine is....karma killer by robbie williams great "hate" lyrics when u listen to it. My ex`s favourite drink was bacardi and coke...and in this song it has the perfect line in it...."i hope you choke on your bacardi and coke"...then at the end he sings "look what you didnt take from me" over and over again This song makes me smile
notmakingsense Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 When I'm in an especially dark mood, I listen to "Fine Again" by Seether.
UT_longhorn Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Doing Just Fine - Boyz II Men. Listen to the Lyrics. It gives you strength.
billskrill Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 One song that i listened to was "Fu@k it" by Eamon....it made me feel a little better and get some of my anger out by listening to it.
hooghie Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 My favorites: Don't Speak (No Doubt) Look Away (Chicago) Kim (Eminem) --- not really sure why I like this song so much since I'm female AND I've never been cheated on that I know of...probably my twisted side.
Shattered Heart Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 I'm just getting over my first breakup, and I must say that I was never into lyrics as much as when I was seriously hurt by love. And it's amazing just how many songs out there involve love. I now realize that most songs are written from deep within a person's soul where they experienced some personal tragedy or loss, because my emotions are in full swing right now. For me, the song that hits me the hardest and most closely resembles my own situation is Phil Collin's "Against All Odds".
JayKay Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Who sings that song that goes... "It's been a while...since I've gone and f***ed things up ....just like I always do...." there's a part that goes.. "..It's been a while, since I've seen the way the candles light your face... It's been a while....but I can still remember just the way you taste..." It's a good breakup song for when your ex-BF comes crying back asking for forgiveness and you say, "Go F yourself" Then you can listen to the song and imagine him crying into his soup over you!
lindya Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Things I have wallowed in and barked at the moon by... Far too many to list, but if you hear me listening to the Tempest then it's generally a good idea to find a safe hiding place. It generally signals my Anger phase of Loss and Change.

blah1234 Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 "Seventy Times Seven" by Brand New. It has some pretty intense lyrics: "Have another drink and drive yourself home I hope there's ice on all the roads and you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt and again when your head goes through the windsheild" Yeah. Pretty good song.

my2centsonthis Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 by Ani DiFranco "**** you and your incredible face, **** you for existing in the first place"
skeptik224 Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 There's so many, but one of my favorites for when they've realized they made a mistake is... What Might Have Been - Little Texas
Kengne Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 1. with most recent ex, R - "Soul Survivor" by Young Geezy ft Akon. It's not a slow song or anything sappy... but THIS SONG was playing on a CD in my car for 2-3 weeks STRAIGHT! I heard it 24/7 so I associate those awful "omg-when-is-this-bad-feeling-going-to-disappear?" days with THIS ONE SONG! UGH. It was mucky. Never tht I'd actually cry to a HIP HOP SONG!!! lol 2. with ex before, M - "I Should Have Cheated" by Keyshia Cole. No tears shed for this one - but again - it is not a sappy song. However what she says abt a bf who consistently accuses HER of cheating (when in reality HE'S the only one cheating!!!) is so DEAD ON. If a man ALWAYS accuses you of cheating - TRUSS ME - he's the one cheating. The guilty ALWAYS speak. K.
