Happy husband happy life also works too but doesn't rhyme. 

Think about it.  One person can't genuinely be happy if their partner is miserable.

I think the core truth behind the saying is more accurately something like - if your partner is happy, they're likely to add to your happiness in life, if they're miserable, they're likely to make your life miserable too.

There are of course no guarantees that a happy partner will ACTUALLY mean you are happy too, nor a miserable one make you miserable. There's all sorts of situations in life. So it's a partial truth at best. But of course most generalizations are, and people hate complexity, so we have rhymes and proverbs instead (not that there isn't value to them...)

Not sure about its accuracy, but I can definitely chime in that the inverse is true unfortunately based on today’s events….’Unhappy wife….unhappy life.’ 😕
