I just read a passage in mathew chapter 5 where Jesus says if my hand causes me to sin to cut it off and throw it away. I'm trying to cut my hand off with a knife as we speak! It hurts. It will be a slow process.

:lmao: ...

Let us know how it goes, all right?

maybe He was talking about his poker hand?

I think cards would be easier to cut.

 You're an odd duck and maybe it's time for some help. (no, not with the hand...)

It's not my hand that causes me to sin. And I'm damn sure not cutting that off. Good luck to you though.

And here we have the dangers of taking the Bible literally when it was meant to be allegory. Poor ol' Jesus, smart though he was, should have included caveats for those who were sure to fail to understand. He dumbed down the message and probably thought he'd done it enough without having to say 'NOW I DON'T MEAN LITERALLY CUT YOUR HAND OFF, YOU UNDERSTAND'.

I agree but I think this is nothing more than a *nutty* post... nothing serious, I hope.

I wasn't just talking about this post. I, too, hope it's a joke. I'm guessing OP wouldn't be typing if his hand were gone.

Why what did your hand do to make you sin?

Yeah it is a bit over the top, makes you wonder what is going through his mind!

outcast, i see the bible being taken literally by christians all the time! isnt that where people think they will not go to heaven (when they die) if they dont pray now, etc?

Ahem God also just told me to tell you that you should hand me all of your money and property!

Mail for for the address to send it all to ok?

I watched the Roadrunner and the Coyote when I was a kid...I KNEW it wasn't real and I didn't try to re-enact that senario, try to die and then come back to life just to do it all over again.

Huh?

The problem is they claim to take it literally, extract some passages which they swear to take literally (while those passages are meant to convey certain messages in certain ways and not be generalized) and then ignore the rest. The point being the way of writing in those days was to use allegory and tales.

yeah sure.

how can anybody really be sure of what jesus was saying though. also people take god as a personal thing, as a being who personally guides them. how do you know that jesus meant god this way and that it wasnt just a way of writing?

i have heard some very interesting and intelligent interpretations of jesus's words, however it is not what most christians i speak to would interpret them. i am not saying that either is wrong or right, just finding it interesting that there can be so many interpretations of jesus's words that make sense.

Take a translation class someday. Get twenty people in a room and they'll argue for an hour and a half over the meaning of a contemporary paragraph - each convinced he's right. Now expand that to all the books of the Bible written thousands of years ago in different languages, interpreted by different people, at different times.

Then convince me that it's exactly now as it was meant to be read and interpreted. I think not.

What did you do that your hand made you sin ? Your taking it too literal ,i think it is what you call a metaphor not meaning what was said!! Or this another troll post!!!

i think not too. this is what i was saying.

It's obviously a joke. It would have been kind of witty if made in response to a relevant topic, but I don't think it works as a self contained joke. Then again, we all vary in our versions of what humour entails.

Quick edit, based on the fact that there are lots of insane people in the world. If it's not a joke, then please do stop sawing off your hand Grace. Unless you're okay with using one hand to type.
