Why the head games?!

Hey everyone. I haven't checked in, in a few weeks, but i need some advice, bad.

After a mutual break-up with my boyfriend, we did NC for a month. Eventually though, I had to call him, because he has my laptop, and I have a few of his dvd's and cd's and clothing. So, last week I called him to see when is a good time to get together to return belongings. He told me he woul dlet me know and call me some time during the week. He never called me, so I sent him an emial saying that I wasn't in a rush or anything, but i really would like to just do this and get it over with. The next night he called me, and starts telling me he misses me and he thinks he made a mistake. I told him I miss him too. He said, "But, it's too late to turn things around." And I said, "Not necessarily, but you know what needs to be done". {He was using cocaine, and I basically gave him an ultimatum. I told him I would help him get help, and stand by him, but he basically chose the coke.}

We agreed that he would call me later in the week, and we would exchange things. The same night I had already talked to him, he called my cell phone 3 times, but i did not hear it. So, he left me a message telling me, "I really do miss you, I really think we need to talk, I feel like I need you so bad tonight," etc, etc. I ddin't end up getting the message until later that night, so I did not call him back. The next morning, while I was gettign ready fro work he called again. This time he told me, "Sorry I called so many times last night, I was having a bad night. That was pretty silly huh"? I was like, "Um, yeah." I didn't know what to say!

No less then two nights later, he is calling me again saying he misses me, and do I have time to talk. I couldn't because I was on my way to a funeral. So, i told him I would call him the next day. Well, when I did, his story turns into, "Oh, I was just having a bad day."

I dont get it!! I gues my question is, what should I do? If he wants me back, should I believe him, and try to get him help and work things out? Or do I just assume he is playing games again? Please help! Sorry this was sooo long!
