TUDOR Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Being good looking only gets you so far unless you are piece of art to hang on the wall. Being smart is good for someone that wants a mature converstion and an intellectual person to stimulate them but again no one wants to be serious all the time and this will only get you so far. Make them cry and you won't get far at all. Make them laugh and you will go much further but again being funny has its limitations and you have bring more than that to the table. It is about being a balanced package. If you are trying to compensate for lack of looks you have to bring more to the table than just being funny. Being romantic, charming, compassionate, patient, passionate...are only some things in addition to funny that you need.
Neptune Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Nothing more fun than trading quips with a witty fellow. quote from Outcast Hey, I always notice this statement from women`s personals on dating websites. Must be a gazillion women make this statement The bad news is I have never had a flair for that, So now I know:sick:

I agree TUDOR...women are always bytching and moaning that men are not serious enough or are laughing and joking way too much. Men are bytching and moaning that women are too serious most of the time. One really needs to know what to do and say and when to do and say it. There is a time to be funny, there is a time to be serious, there is a time to be romantic and there is a time to just f***
seachange Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 The question is, do the ladies here find the Stooges hot? I confess: I don't. Moe's hair makes my skin crawl.
lilmoma1973 Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I have never met a female in real life who liked the Stooges. How can women say they are funny and not "get" the Stooges? Is it too physical for women? Is there not enough to analyze? Is it too low-brow? They are funny and i love them !! Guess it depends on the individual grew up on watching them along with the Little Raschals!!
seachange Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 the Little Raschals!! Okay, now that's comedy!

lilmoma1973 Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Okay, now that's comedy! Little Rascals is a trip to me also!! Why don't you like the three stooges ?
seachange Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Oh, I don't like or dislike them. I've barely watched them, to be honest. I prefer cartoon violence of the cat and mouse variety. I just don't find them physically attractive. In their cases, humor ain't enough.

seachange Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I gotcha. I was just aiming for witabix's original post question: Would you overlook a guy's ugliness if he were funny? Answer: not necessarily.
lilmoma1973 Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I gotcha. I was just aiming for witabix's original post question: Answer: not necessarily. Me either !! My first would be a sense of humor but they also have to be hot too!!
lindya Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 As spin off from another post I was wondering how important humour is to the LS females? Incredibly, but what causes one man to split his sides may make another stifle a yawn. Most people think they're funny, and fortunately most people are surrounded by people who agree with them. Would you overlook a guy's ugliness if he were funny? Differences again. My brother once described a boyfriend of mine as "almost impressively ugly." I thought he (the boyfriend, not my brother) was as sexy as hell. I have heard it said that humour can get you into a woman's bed, was wondering if that is true, or more relevantly what you all thought about it? See above would you prefer the world's most handsome man even if he were devoid of humour? I've yet to meet a man who believes he's devoid of humour. Put it this way, if I sat down on top of a whoopee cushion then turned round to see Brad Pitt crying with laughter, I might not feel overly envious of Angeline Jolie. And..... too many ands here methinks but what the hell..... what are your thoughts on hiding the real man behind his humour, thinking of the tortured souls behind the famous funny people here. Humour's definitely one of the more appealing coping mechanisms a person can have. With men like that, you need to develop a sense of when it's okay to laugh and when they might actually be looking for an opening to say something that isn't very funny.
Author witabix Posted December 12, 2005 Author Posted December 12, 2005 Wellll that was interesting.... I got from that, The Three Stooges were funny but not attactive. Thanks Lindya for addressing the questions directly, very informative. Brad Pitt on a whoopee cushion not funny, are you sure? As a man of average looks I have relied upon other forms of "engagement" to attract women. I was wondering how attractive/sexy/alluring a sense of humour with words was to women. Totally self centred and egocentric I know! But I am a man right?......................

Totally self centred and egocentric I know! But I am a man right?...................... Oh boo. I was only kidding. Well, not about the Stooges. They aren't hot. But I'll try to answer your question better...I think humor can be as much a matter of chemistry as attraction - some people are on the same wavelength. And if I meet a man who I find very funny, whose humor gels with mine, then yes indeed, that's very attractive to me. Looks aren't necessarily insignificant - but as lindya said, that's also a matter of individual taste. And an attractive man is much more than the sum of his looks. If I find his personality attractive, I'm far more likely to find him attractive. Generally speaking, if I find a handsome man's personality unappealing, he will become unappealing to me pretty quickly as well. Also, I actually think Brad sitting on a whoopee cushion could be hysterical. But not in a sexual way.
whichwayisup Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Brad Pitt on a whoopee cushion not funny, are you sure? ANYBODY on a whoopee cushion is FUNNY! Could you imagine the Queen sitting on one of those? hehehe...Or even Oprah Winfrey? Hilarious! Makes me think of Leslie Neilson...He always has tricks up his sleeves before interviews, he plays pranks on the reporters/photographers. I met him once and he had a "squeeze toy" that made fart noises! Absolutely hilarious stuff! And ofcourse, his facial expressions that go with it! LMFAO!

I met him as well during a book tour, and somehow we got discussing something very serious, I don't remember what. Then, just as it seemed he was about to make a point, phazzzzz. I thought I'd bust a gut.

There's a Jewish proverb: "Laughter is the hand of God on the shoulder of a troubled world." Laughter indicates someone who can transcend the troubles of this world and look at things from a point of view that can actually see the humor or at least irony in it. That's a person you want to be with, who can make life a joy. Wit is much better than looks as long as it's not mean. Forget the Stooges. Give me Monty Python any day. I mean, 'fess up now ladies, who really wants to do Larry, Moe, Curley, or Shep? I didn't think so.
