The "don't wear black to a wedding" rule is a thing of the past. Depending on where you are. Still, it's better to save for evening weddings.

So ask what time it is and where it's being held. It makes a big difference to how dressy you get and what you wear.

Ok, so I asked the guy I'm going with and he said that it's at 3:30/4:00. So......now what do you guys think? Is this considered a night wedding?

yes because its going to extend into the evening. unless you're planning on leaving at 5:30pm.

Yes, its considered a night wedding.

Logically Speaking: Find an outfit that accentuates your curves.

If you have a fair complexion, wear a neutral or dark coloured outfit.

If you have a tanned complexion, wear a light coloured outfit.

Take into account, your hair colour. This helps distinguish off-sets in your look.

In general, you should know exactly which type of outfits work best for your body.

Weddings are stressful, but fun too. :o:laugh:

I know that the dress looks good, I just don't know if it's too dressy for a wedding. I mean, I don't want to stand out or feel awkward if everyone else is more under-dressed than me.

its always better to be over-dressed than under-dressed.

A sparkly dress sounds like a bit much. Unless you can find a way to dress it down (with a cardigan or wearing your hair down), I would go for something else.

I went to 4 weddings last summer, all nice, and I saw girls wear black at each of them. If you're worried about looking too depressing, maybe you could pair it with a bright scarf, belt or another bright accessory to offset it. Except for white or offwhite, I think any color is acceptable.

first off, wearing black to a wedding is fine! in fact, i was just at a friend's wedding this past weekend and wore my simple (yet sexy) black dress... any woman has to have that simple black dress for any occassion....

the rule is: as long as you're not wearing white (or any shade close to it like ivory, etc.), and not upstaging the bride, it's fine...

second, jilly, it does sound a bit too much.. sparkly blue halter dress.. but if you really like that dress, i suggest you wear a shawl (maybe in silver or any neutral color) to give it a more elegant look.

hope that helps...

and btw, it's better to go over-dressed than under-dressed!

If you don't want to stand out, the safest color to go with has to be black. And it's perfect for this season because it's a cool color and it's classy and can be elegant. Whereas light-colored dresses are more suitable for summer/spring events.

Oh and if you go in black, you can dress it up or down, depending on hair style, make up, shoes, the works. So you have a lot of room to play around with.

Yeah, I've agreed to just go with basic black. I have my "little black dress" that I can wear that would look nice.

Someone on here said the sparkles might be a bit much and I completely agree. Thanks for everyone's opinion!

But it's even better to go undressed.

Not at the wedding. I mean my place.

methinks I have an idea for the Hot Friday thread...
