A woman who has been played is naturally cautious when she encounters someone "too good to be true" and the nice guy misinterprets her reticence as a lack of interest and respectfully leaves her alone. Meanwhile, the woman thinks, "well, you see? he didn't get in my pants so he moved on."

See the dilemma?

No actually I don't see the dilemma.....#1 it is women who chose the men and #2 it is the women who like to do the chasing.

Trust me NEWLEE40...when the right man comes along, masculine, good looking, good job, dresses right, smart, etc.... most women will not play it "cautious". They will go out of their way to snag him.

Well, that sounds exactly like the guy I met in the restaurant. Unfortunately, I'm not much of a chaser myself, so apparently I'm not like "most women."

While I didn't chase him, I did respond to him in such a way that he knew I found him attractive and someone I would be interested in seeing. There was no need for me to chase, because he was the one who was chasing.

When he stopped calling, in my gut, I knew what had happened, and it sickened me to the core. I'd been played. But, I decided to give the guy one last little benefit of the doubt and called him about a week later. He answered, and was friendly and said he'd been very busy and apologized for not calling. When we hung up, he said he'd call. He hasn't and I'm fairly certain he won't unless his dance card happens to be empty some lonely weekend in the future and he has some time to fill. He's not going to burn any bridges by being a total jerk, but he's not overly concerned about keeping the door open either.

As far as women liking to do the chasing, that is contrary to any advice I've ever been given by books, men friends or women - that is, that men want to be the pursuers.

All I can say at this point is WHATEVER. Right now I'm feeling that whatever it is that I do or don't do, its just the wrong thing. I'm tired of trying to figure it out. The best thing to do is just give up, I think.

my personal experience with women over the past 20 yrs is that when they find a man they really really really like a lot then they will do they pursueing.

you even said that you called him NL40...even tho he did not respond you still tried to pursue him and chances are if you really like him and he calls you a month down the road you'd still go out with him.
