Does anyone on here think its possible to fall in love with someone you have never met but talk to every single day??

Posted

Nope. You absolutely cannot know someone you don't spend time together with. You can believe you love that person, but I promise you that when you meet the person, you'll find someone quite different from who you think the person is.

Yes. There are people who think that.

But I have to agree with Outcast. It is not love, but more or less an infatuation / idealization to a marked degree.

Even the pitch of the voice could be a complete turn-off for you (if it is solely IM, but even phones can be deceptive in that regard). The way a person drinks tea. The way that person drives a car or talks about other (racial) groups of people, et cetera.

Well this doesnt pertain to me as it is my girlfriend's situation. We were talking recently and she started to go into the difficult situation she is in with someone she talks to from online. They talk every single day on the phone-like 5 different times & somtimes up to 3-4 hours at a time. They get along just great,in fact she says its actually scary because its like too good to be true. They have alot in common and also share the same beliefs in certain things. They both have stated to eachother how happy they are when they talk to one another & how they havent felt like that in a while..

Now for myself I am not sure if I believe falling in love with a "stranger" is possible,Ive told her my thoughts on it but it doesnt seem to be enough,so I figured id ask the people on here to give me some idea's to tell her

Of course you can fall in love with someone you have never met. The emotions are real.

But, you are falling in love with a small percentage of a whole person, if that person is even presenting themself honestly. It can of course be argued, that you can never really know someone, even in real life. This is of course true aswell. However, it is much easier to be deceptive and / or to be deceived without having ever met that person.

If we are lucky, when we meet that person IRL, they will end up fulfilling the ideas (fantasies) that we have in our head. Most often, they do not.

Be wary of preconceived notions.
