I think you get your power back by resolving your sense of identity to not include him/your relationship to him except in a 100% "past" sense. At that point his attitude towards you/"discarding of you" becomes irrelevant to your current well being. This is easier said than done, but mostly takes time/"growing" into who you are without him. Essentially you are establishing a new sense of identity that doesn't involve him. Once that is "set" he is no longer of interest to you except possibly in a minor nostalgic way, being someone from your past.
