Silver_star
Want to know others opinions on this. If you and your friend planned a trip and shared the cost of accommodation at non refundable hotels and they couldn't go at the last minute due to passport issues would you personally pay them for their share of the hotel room since they are "not staying in the room and you are"? [ ] I just see a lot of entitlement with a particular friend. I did not plan to go to the hotel alone, but I also cannot get a refund from the hotel. If we both didn't go and cancelled the reservation we might get a voucher for a hotel stay less admin/cancellation fees. BrinnM
If they paid their share ahead of time, and later found out they can’t go due to passport issues, then no, I wouldn’t pay them back [ ] The agreement was that you both would pay for half of the hotel room, which you did. If they can’t go, due to their own negligence, that’s on them. Edited April 27, 2023 by a LoveShack.org Moderator response to removed content

Talking about small claims court doesn't seem like it. Unfortunately it was poorly planned if there were last minute passport issues. Do you still want to go alone? Speak with the hotel or whatever travel agent and see if you can be reimbursed.

Was their passport about to expire and they didn't realize it? Or? Because a last-minute problem with a passport sounds like they didn't do their due diligence in making sure everything was alright before they went ahead and booked the trip.
basil67
It's not your fault they couldn't get organised, so you should not pay for them
JTSW
No, don't pay her. Her unorganised issues are not your problem. It's hers. If she loses out because she didn't sort her passport in time then that's her own fault.

They do have a pattern of being irresponsible. Her passport was not expired when we booked the trip, however it was damaged because she carries it around with her in her purse without a case/cover because she has no other form of photo ID 😱 . She thought the passport would be fine, but once I seen it in person I suggested she go ask the passport office agents because there was water damage to stamps inside and small tears along the bottom. She ended up submitting an application for a new passport but now there is a federal strike and they are not processing passports and everything is backlogged. So she is NOW worried she won't get any of her money for this trip back and looking to identify ways to get a refund.
