This is the absolute truth OP, a situation like this can seem fantastic  but in some respects it is the opposite, think of it like standing outside a sweet shop and never being able to walk into the shop. Just about the only you gain in this situation is a sense of having something albeit something which only really exists in your mind.

Though if you are very short of dating options then maybe a situation like this does tick a few boxes for you. The reverse of this is people like this generally like the attention as much as they like giving it so as I say its a win for them.
