Talking to a (what I thought was) a friend today and I jokingly said if he did something he'd never see me again. He replied, 'Oh. OK. That's not so bad.'

I was kinda shocked. I always considered him a good friend. When he was thinking about moving away last year, I told him I'd miss him, but obviosuly he wouldn't have missed me. Sounds like he figures he can do just as well without me. No big deal.

Thoughts?

Yes, it’s possible you like him more than he likes you. Does it matter?

This doesn't really sound like a joke.  It sounds more like you were trying to get your way under the guise of a joke and it backfired. What was the thing you were referring to?

Alternately, if you really were joking, you may have to reconsider your style of humour.

Are you sure you are just friends? You seem to want more. It would be strange if he had all these emotional attachments if you two are just friends, no?

Are there any other examples where he’s not a good friend?

His response was teasing you.

What makes you think he wouldn’t have missed you? Not sure why he has to say it outloud. Do you have a crush on this guy?

@glows presents a good option.  He met a joke with a joke. It's probably closer to the truth than my original thought
