Hi there,

I have a first date coming up and wondered if it's a good idea to buy her a small gift relating to something she likes? Or is not really done these days?

Any advice would be great, thanks!

Depends what it is. Something simple like a single rose? How old is she?

She's 34. Was thinking s bracelet, but not an expensive one, something themed to what she likes.

Too much. Save that for when a relationship evolves. Keep in mind, if you two hit it off there will be plenty of time and opportunities for something like this. You don't want to overwhelm or make anyone feel beholden.

No…not for a first face to face meeting

How do you know what she likes, you haven’t met the woman.

No, I would not buy her a gift to give her the first time you meet her. Just buy the drink/food.

That would be the biggest red flag to a woman. The greatest gift you could ever give on a first meet is to look good, clean and fresh, nice and tidy, and have a positive attitude with confidence. That is what gets a lady interested. It's called a good first impression. Throwing gifts and money at them is called desperation...gross.

Was it ever done?

I once had a man give me a small bunch of flowers and a small box of chocolates on a first date. I thought that was quite sweet.

No, not on a first date.  That would be super weird and inappropriate.  If a guy gave me a gift on a first date it would totally creep me out and make me uncomfortable.

I'll echo the majority here - it's too soon for gifts.

I would feel rather awkward if a guy I had never met showed up with a gift for me. Your heart might be in the right place, OP, but save that sort of gesture for a later date after you get to know each other.

While my vote is largely in the "no" category, I could get on board with this idea.  A small bunch of flowers (not roses!) or a small box of chocolates.  They aren't as personal as a bracelet but still shows thoughtfulness and generosity.
