Sarahismyname Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 My cervical screening has come back as abnormal cells. It says low grade and shows HPV. I have to have a colposcopy procedure but I am sooo worried because I find my smear tests painful and really uncomfortable. Has anyone else had a colposcopy and could tell me what it was like and what happens? I've heard that might put dye on but I'm not sure. I'm just soo worried. Please help

I have to have a colposcopy procedure but I am sooo worried Ask your physician to do a complete STD screen. Ask if you're an appropriate candidate for a vaccine. It sounds like your BF won't use condoms? As you know HPV, although quite common, is a sexually transmitted disease. You'll have to refrain from sex for a while. It's not a good idea to collect anecdotal accounts of the procedure because only your medical care professionals can give you appropriate info on your specific situation and what types of discomfort or medical pain control is involved for you specifically. For general information on this procedure, research reputable medical information sites, such as Mayo Clinic etc.
BrinnM Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 (edited) Hey Sarah - I know it sounds scary, but don’t worry too much! I’ve had that done, and the procedure is the same as the PAP smear really, not great fun, but definitely not painful. If they find any cancerous or abnormal looking cells though (like in my case), they’ll have to do a followup biopsy. (Which is also not that bad, TBH.) Edited August 28, 2022 by BrinnM 1

Please help As for the colonoscopy... the worst part is the prep. Truly you don't feel a thing since they give good iv meds. You just have to toot to get outGood luck.
stillafool Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 From my understanding a Colposcopy does not hurt. It is very similar to a Pap Smear where you feel a little pressure. Even if you have to have a biopsy it won't hurt. 1
