Tinkerbella Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Hi everyone, any thoughts on this would be great. I broke up with my bf 3 months ago & we went out a couple of times last week "as friends." There are alot of conflicting opinions when it comes to the question of whether or not you can be friends with an ex. The reason I'm beginning to question whether or not all he wants is friendship is he gave me a very expensive gift for my birthday (which was last week) followed by a huge bunch of roses. However, he hasn't said anything about getting back together & other than holding my hand & hugging me we behaved like friends. I would be willing to give it another try but I'm just wondering if any of these actions indicate that he wants to get back together? 1) If your in love with someone can you really be just friends? 2) If you just want to be friends would you bother buying your ex an expensive present & hold her hand? 3) Could the fact that he's not being too forward & affectionate be because he's just being cautious & taking it slow? 4) Do you think these could be signs that he wants me back? Thanks in advance.

Not just friends.. it isn't possible 2). NO 3).Yes..A little.. Roses are brazen.. but he could be scared how you will react.. 4). Yes.. There is no doubt .. Talk to him about it 4)
fundamental Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Yes, he wants you back....and he is trying to show you.
johnny1968 Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Yes, he definitely wants you back and he's showing you indeed that he's willing to persue you if you're willing to be persued. I think the ball is your court now. His actions state that if you do "say no" he'll be O.K. with that too.
Author Tinkerbella Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 Thanks for the replies. I suspected that he wanted to get back together. However, I'm now faced with another dilemma, any more thoughts would be great.. We had an ok relationship but it's not what I would have called serious. I was his first serious gf (even though he's 22) & he's quite immature. He's also very sensitive & finds it really hard to express his feelings which is why I suspect he hasn't asked me outright to get back together. The problem is I've been with someone for the past couple of months & I've fallen in love with my new bf. He's everything my ex is not & I'm happy in this relationship. But my ex keeps calling & wanting to see me. I really don't want to hurt him & would like to stay friends. He doesn't know about my new bf because he hasn't asked if I'm seeing anyone & it didn't seem appropriate to mention it the past 2 times we've seen each other. Since he hasn't implied that he wants more than friendship, should I just wait until he does & then tell him I'm with someone. I know I should be honest, but if he does just want to be friends then there would have been no point. I just don't know how to bring it up in conversation. What's the best way to tell him? Should I take the chance if I may be wrong? Thanks again
Mary3 Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 You have to tell your ex that you are now seeing someone new and do it ASAP Your ex has hopes of reconciliation. If you don't tell him soon, he's not going to be able to move on. You need to cut the ties. You have already moved on. Be fair to him.
