What kind of school do you go to where this is a regular thing in the classroom? I've seen men get googly-eyes from female classmates or some flirting, but I can't say I've ever witnessed  the sort of consistent sexually-charged fangirling you're describing.

I am 19, and I think most of my classmates are close to that age.

I might have misunderstood those situations a bit;
some of those girls probably already knew him a bit, and I think it was only maybe two of them who clearly mentioned something about dates or meeting him, so I guess I got the impression that all of them were trying to do that same thing.

Either way, a guy like this is quite tricky.

They would try and surround him before and after class, make a mad dash to get the seat next to him. They would call his name in a very sultry way. My sorority sisters in the class with me  assumed he played for the other team since he didn't seem interested in any of them, but I can tell you  that's not true.

Ah okay, I have seen a bit of that behaviour from the girls at my school as well.
I have noticed a few times that some girls who have passed him have said hi to him and then touched his upper body, and then gone away and started giggling about it, and he has pretty much just smiled a bit about it and let it be.

I do know that he is interested in girls, because I saw him sit and make out with a girl on our first week after the summer holiday in a corner a bit out of the way, and he would touch her and fondle her quite a bit (like touching her breasts and her thighs a lot, and things like that), and he has also had different girls walk with him away from school when the classes have been over.

If he's doing this in public where you can see them, this should send up major creepzone red flags for you. Do better for yourself. Date guys who respect you, don't play around, paw up women and care about you.

They were in a corner that was a bit out of the way, where they wouldn't get seen very easily, and I guess they felt like they weren't being watched and forgot about it a bit.
I don't see him treat girls in that kind of highly intimate manner among other people.

It kind of sounds like your tracking and observing this fellow are a full time pursuit.  Do you participate in other activities at your school?  Date other guys, have women friends etc?

Looks like half of  females in the the school that OP is attending are obsessing over this guy in one way or another. What is so great about him besides his looks? If he looked ordinary, how much would you care about him OP?

So the truth is that they're not actually constantly falling all over themselves and trying to get him in bed the way you think they are. 

It sounds as though there is a lot of projection on your part. He seems popular and desirable, yes, but I think you are possibly also exaggerating the details in your mind because you view him as so unattainable. 

Maybe take a step back and ask yourself what you base his appeal on as well. His looks?

I haven't spoken to him yet, so I don't know him.
But his looks definitely make me very interested to approach him, and it would be great if he turned out to have a decent personality as well.
