Could you forgive your partner for one night of drunken flirty messages between him and your sister? They didn’t meet up. I have posted before about the bigger picture but this is what it comes down to.

No. It's symptomatic of much larger issues such as why are they even messaging in the first place.

Why do you want to "forgive" him? Once you "forgive" bad behaviors and betrayals you condone and give the green light for more disrespect. Don't use "drunk" or "one night" as excuses for his overall lack of integrity.

Read up on "sunk cost fallacy". It's when you refuse to cut your losses in a bad situation because of overinvesting.

Nope, absolutely not.

That crosses way too many boundaries.

Broadly speaking, the answer to the question would depend on many factors: from how good our relationship was prior to the incident -  to what remediation has been done since - to what the fallout would be from ending it.

Do you want to forgive him?  Or do you want to run for the hills?

I don't believe being drunk makes us do anything we don't naturally have an inclination to do, it just makes us less inhibited about it.

I don't think I could ever really trust him again.  So I guess that would be a no - I wouldn't really be able to forgive him.

@RosePSmith How do you define "forgive" in this context?

No, not a partner because a partner would be my boyfriend.  I might give a husband a second chance.  What about you?
