Fruits of the Holy Spirit πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

Recommended Posts

Today is the day that I follow everything that God says. I've been reading the bible and its daily reflections since New Year's Day, 2017, and I was Catholic all my life, but I've been a doubter so many times. Now, I'm resolute to follow everything. I will start with developing the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

For two weeks in a row, my life was mired by so many worries, anxieties, and health problems. No, it has been like that since the beginning of the pandemic.

But a few hours or so of a liturgical bible study in the Community rinsed away all my fears.

Truly, God is good. Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ, Almighty Father, the Holy Spirit, Mother Mary, and all the angels in heaven! Love love ya all! πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

β€œThe fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…”

– Galatians 5:22-23

Β

LOVE

I have love in my heart, especially for the needy, the poor, and all the people who have nothing. If only I am rich, I would've started a foundation for the homeless. Still too young for this thing but whenever I see someone in need, I readily help... in ways I can.

I don't have much love for my parents. I have to say this. I felt resentful that they got in my way of my dreams... but I'm trying to overcome this... little by little. I love them but I am not very kind to them, especially my father who was absent for much of my life. :(

Β

PEACE

I don't have much peace yet. I have difficulty getting myself to sleep due to health problems. I have two health problems now, which are not yet "in control." But I recently learned that the most effective antidote is "following and being a disciple of Christ." :)

Β

PATIENCE

I tend to lose patience every now and then. Still working on it. My mind seems to be kind of working best in "controlled situations" so it's kinda hard when I encounter things I believe shouldn't be there in the very first place.

Β

KINDNESS

Yes, I tend to be very kind, generous. When a strong storm came up here, I organized a donation drive even with very little help and support. I've donated things here and there, and my work is essentially about helping people. But lately, I got tired and exhausted. I'm on leave until Monday. Hoping to recuperate fully so I can help more people. :)

Β

GENEROSITY

Yes, I love giving things, and I give generously. I love making people happy. When I'm able to do this, I'm happy myself as well. Helping to stimulate the local economy too through buying local products as gifts and I tend to do this generously. I just love giving! πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡

Β

FAITHFULNESS

One of my weaknesses is that I easily get tempted sexually. Honestly, I'm not a very faithful/loyal person. But, yes, I noticed that I'm seeing myself change. Having a girlfriend seems to have changed that.

Β

GENTLENESS

I admit it, I'm a very frank person, sometimes, brutally. But, yes, I understand how important this is. Good thing is, I'm gradually changing this as well. :)

Β

SELF-CONTROL

Honestly, I just watched porn this afternoon. So, yes, this is still one of my biggest concerns. Hopefully, I'd be able to address this as well. :)

Is there a purpose/question to this thread?Β  [ ]Β

While I personally strongly believe in God, I find the Bible and the many interpretations of it to be more a hindrance than a help. It contains much false information - for example, Noah's Ark never happened, Adam and Eve were not real, etc. If these things had happened, so recently in the past, there would be substantial convergent scientific evidence from geology and genetics supporting them, and scientists would be eagerly pointing that out. There is not. There are also a lot of contradictions (which you are probably familiar with) and questionable parts, such as the acceptance of slavery.

Since the faith of many Christians (not all) is built up the shaky ground of, essentially, forcing themselves to believe things that aren't true and remaining in denial of facts, I don't find it surprising that many (not all) have a tendency towards "crises of faith" and fallacious all/nothing - black/white reasoning. Since it's all supposedly "the Word of God" none of it can be wrong - but in reality plenty of it is.

The logical conclusion is that it's not "the unchanging and absolutely/eternally true Word of God" but rather the (genuine) gnostic experiences of early Jews and early Christians, recorded through the "filter" of their logic/reasoning/perspective on the world. Important, certainly. But not some sort of "ultimate truth". In fact, the Catholic versions were put together by, essentially, a series of committees of early Roman Christians.

To my mind, the fact that the Bible has substantial falsehoods and other holes in it has essentially zero bearing on the existence of God. The existence of God is independent of it, or any other Holy Book, or the reasoning of any particular sect. You can read about the rather disparate piecing together of the Bible by various groups, from various writings, at the link below:

^^The purpose of the thread is to spread positivity and sunshine.

I received a terrible news two weeks ago so I'm keeping myself positive with things in life. I found inspiration in the bible, and I'm posting stuff from the bible to make myself, and maybe others, happy.

Firstly, I’m sorry about the terrible news. I hope you and your loved ones are safe/well.Β

If you’re Catholic, check out local Catholic groups. Your local parish or one close to you will have programs available. It would strike me as far more effective in terms of support and meeting with others who have similar beliefs instead of posting randomly on a forum of mixed belief and atheists or agnostics. You’re free to express yourself and my suggestion is aimed to help if you need real support from people in real time or if you want to go about something productive using your faith.Β

^^Thanks for the advice.

Writing to me is therapeutic, so I wrote this thread to make myself feel better and maybe others too. I already joined a Catholic group and I've had a great time last Friday during our liturgical bible study.

I thought posting this thread would be quite alright considering that the sub-forum is entitled "Spirituality & Religious Beliefs." It's okay, I'm open to all religious beliefs and I respect them, whatever they may believe in. I was once an agnostic too so I understand.

I don't have any purpose for this thread other than to make myself and others happy. I hope you understand. Thank you.

I'm Catholic, though I disagree with a number of ideas within Catholicism.Β

Yes, this is the forum for writing about religion and stuff.

Yes.Β

The oldest extant New Testament is the Codex Sinaiticus from the 4th century.Β

I'm not sure why the books called Apocrypha got tossed out of the mainstream bible.
