Your message was very generic and uninteresting.  If I received a message like that, I probably wouldn't reply to it either.  Maybe you shouldn't be following a "formula" and just be yourself.

And when someone doesn't reply, you take the hint that they aren't interested and you leave them alone.  You don't keep messaging them.  Desperation and trying too hard is not going to make her like you, if she wasn't interested in the first place.

She's got the following in her profile: a picture of her holding a python.

It's possible the snake 🐍 bit her, but more likely it's a fake or inactive profile.

Just move along and respond only to those who responded to you. No one expects Cyrano de Bergerac to write messages.

What you wrote was just fine and better than the hi and wassup nonsense

This is true, but the goal with on line is sending a message that would pique her interest and get her interested.  Make her smile or chuckle, make her go "hmmm" and want to find out more.

Don't underestimate the power of that first message, if she's attractive she's receiving hundreds.

That first message is her FIRST introduction to you.  If she is intrigued by it, she will open your profile, view your pics and respond if she likes what she sees and reads.

Absolutely, I wouldn’t advise any guy to just write “hi” :) But no matter how good the message, the woman in the receiving end has her own criteria what she finds intriguing and attractive. The same line might be hilarious for one woman and weird for another. There could also be something in the profile that doesn’t appeal to her.

I think "hi" messages are fine too...

If I've received a hi in the past with online dating, I just replied ""what's on your mind?" or "meow."

Then based on our banter or mutual interest, it took off from there.

What's not fine is following some formula.

Which is what it seems you did here OP.
