I moved to this new student housing apartment a few months ago when my foot was broken and since I had my crutches fall and make loud noises a couple times, I kept thinking to maybe grab a chocolate or something (from trader joes or somewhere known) and take it to them for the new years/holiday as a kind gesture! Is this okay? they wont think it is weird given I have never met them? they are downstairs and i don't see them!

Introduce yourself as the neighbour above and offer the chocolates if you like. That’s a very nice gesture. I’d think of it more as an opportunity to say hello and introduce yourself. 3

Be kind, thoughtful and friendly to neighbors and landlords. But food gifts from complete strangers isn't universally appreciated. 1

This is just a gesture, not meant to have any deep meaning. I live in a close knit community and I have always been taught not to show up at any doorstep empty handed. I wouldn’t second guess this harmless gesture for a moment nor think it untoward from a neighbour. However, others may think differently. Something to keep in mind also is that those chocolates may not be eaten or appreciated in the way you wish because not everyone is a sweet tooth or likes chocolates. I’d hope nothing is opened! Don’t overthink this. If it’s bothering you or you’re not sure don’t do it. 1
