Why do people say the past doesn't matter?

How come people say that someone's sexual past doesn't matter?

I find it difficult to date women who have slept with many guys. This is not because I'm insecure. But the past does matter in my opinion. It's part of who you are?

For those of you who believe it doesn't matter, how do you  look past the fact that your date has slept with many people? You may be at the gym, at a bar, or out an about and walk past various people who have had one night stands with your date. Do you simply not care?

If it matters to you, then it matters.  If I say it doesn't matter, then that of course means for me.  I've never even asked a woman or even wondered how many guys she's been with.  Everyone has their own preferences, and you're entitled to your own.

Why does it matter to you would be my question?  What do you think that says about her?  And what is the cutoff of what's considered acceptable sexual history?  And what if she lies?
