Why do people 'casually date'

Am i the only person who thinks this is weird?

Either we are in a relationship or we are just sex buddies.

Casually dating is stupid i've done it before and find it just a waste of time.. it's like we are dating and doing relationship things but aren't in a relationship... why? because often one party doesn't actually want a relationship

i have a friend who has been "casually dating" a girl for 9 months! so they go out and do girlfriend/boyfriend stuff but they aren't "official" but they've said they don't "see other people"

casual dating = using each other till you find someone you actually want a relationship with. really cringe.
