Is it appropriate to ask a person about his or her job during first few texts?

Because of this thread l'm paying close attention to this question. I was asked by several men today what l did for living. When they didn't asked l took the initiative myself after 3-4 messsges. I have eliminated 2 prospects today as they were new immigrants on work permits and i'm not putting myself through this ever again. See, people often have a very legitimate reason to ask.

Gaeta, just to clarify, I did not mean to suggest asking those types of questions isn't legitimate.

They're important to some, less important to others, no right or wrong.

My posts were (1) to empathize with the OP because clearly she felt/feels judged when asked and  (2) to be aware how the question(s) come across to those you ask.

Because it "might" put some men off, good solid successful men like @dramafreezoneand @salparadisefor example.

That's all.

I'm glad you're having fun getting back out there again! 👍

If he works in an abattoir and she is an animal loving vegan then no matter how well they "vibe", it is a nonstarter...

I'm curious if that could truly work.

I simply prefer to not judge people in that way but to each their own.

Yes, but we don't know what the motivation for the man asking the OP the question was either.

"Where are you from" and "What do you do" are two the first most common questions. plus, they want to make sure you don't have a bad job, it's smart.

Also, it's not necessary to ask for your name in text - in writing, you should always "sign" your name / introduce yourself right away. That's the first thing you learn in kindergarten - sign your paper.

So Fletch. Where are you from and what do you do?

...Reluctance to divulge that information, unless you're involved in classified work, is something I'd be concerned with...

If you are involved in truly classified work they teach you how to answer the work question.  Hint, the answer is never "it's classified" :)
