90sFireRocket Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Luckily this isn't my experience but a cousins (I know what you're thinking but no, this seriously is my cousins experience haha) Lets say someone ends things with you. You decided to stop their social media from following you and you stop following them (neither of you are blocked though, just not following each other any more I.e Instagram) but you two text a bit after the break up, only for the dumper to say that the talking is too much and blocks you on texts (I.e whatsapp). Why would a dumper only block on one form of social media (whatsapp), but not on the others that they also interacted on now and again (instagram or facebook)? I've heard of dumpers blocking the dumpee due to too much post-break up chat on most forms of social media where they also interracted, but never just on one. Why might that be?
Pumpernickel Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Because WhatsApp is for direct communication maybe (like SMS/iMessage), and they don't want any communication with you? Whereas social media is just social media. You can post, and you don't care if the dumpee sees it or not. It's their choice if they look, but it won't affect/bother you as the dumper, as they don't directly contact you through these channels.

Yes, this. The dumper doesn't care to have conversations but doesn't really mind if your cousin can still see whatever they post on their other social media.

But you can message directly through Instagram as they have a messaging feature, especially with my cousin and his ex they would message there and discuss what they've tagged each other in). Just find it weird that normally you hear the dumpee is blocked on everything that has connected the two compared to just one thing that connects them.

ExpatInItaly Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Who knows, maybe your cousin's ex is seeing someone and doesn't want the new person to see What's App notifications from your cousin coming through. In the end, it doesn't really matter. This person has requested that they cut back on talking. That is the request of someone who wants space. Your cousin need not stress over where he is or isn't blocked, as it doesn't affect the bottom line.

I am not assuming they're still tagging each other. So the reason for communicating about tagged pictures is probably no longer there, hence, no need for blocking.

It's best to simply delete and block him from all your social media and messaging apps. Not as a confusing message, but to move forward in peace.
