I am seeing a woman and it's going good so far, but one thing that is kind of annoying is her accent.  She has a, what people call a "valley girl accent".  But I don't think accent is real and she is putting it on.  I read the accent comes from California, but she's not from there so I think that the accent is fake and she is possibly just putting on a fake accent or dialect that is not hers, and therefore it's weird.  Unless I am wrong?

We can't hear her so not sure how we would be able to tell.

I guess... does it matter to you? What reason could there be for her to do it?

Valley speak may be a result of watching TV.

omg just gag me with a spoon!

When people put on such a persona, they most likely don't like who they are or don't feel special so they create a different personality. This has ick factor all over it. Run for the hills.

Oh gosh.......If she sounds like Fran Drescher, I'm out!

Why would you think it's fake?  Do other things about her demeanor come across as fake, phony, or shallow?

This is the risk of a long distance, virtual relationship. You have no way to know if the person really is who they present themselves to be. If you are concerned that she is not representing herself honestly, stop talking to her.

every sound from everyone's mouth is an accent to someone.  bigger question is, are you actually concerned that she has chosen the way she speaks and that it may be exaggerated, or are you literally just annoyed with how she sounds and wishing that she spoke differently?

either way...sounds like this may not be the girl for you if you hate listening to her voice.

Well it just seems like the accent is not from here, Canada, and therefore she is making it up and I just wonder why would she do that?  Is it part of a fake persona therefore, if she makes up her own accent?

No clue what the accents are there but why would she put on an accent , no way she could keep it up , seems ridiculous , it's probably just how she talks. Could be parents or anything.

Well I thought that the accent was American, and from different parts of the US, but she is Canadian and has no American ancenstors, so therefore I thought it wouldn't have gotten it from anywhere naturally.

Yeah right , how old is she , not unusual for young people especially women to give things a bit of a twist these days , fades out with age though.

Tell her you hear a little accent and where it's from. Nothing to it. I ask people what's their accent often. It's a good conversation starter.
