Has anyone else noticed something fishy going with FB after joining Match?

I realize this is not actually about dating but thought there would be a better chance of getting an answer or suggestions here.  I joined Match a few days ago and noticed that I've already gotten around eight "friends requests" from guys on my FB page since Wednesday.  I don't know what other reason it could be.  I have my FB on private and generally do not accept requests unless I actually do know the person.  For this reason, I only have around 50 FB "friends".

Not sure. Maybe they reverse image searched you from your pictures on match and found your fb or something?

See if you can find any of them on Match. Seems kind of creepy if that's what it is.

When you register to match does it ask for your phone number? if yes then I bet it's those algorithms making the connection between the 2 apps both containing your phone number.

Yes Match does ask for a phone number.  Yikes!  This didn't happen when I was on back in 2019.  Scary if that's what it is!

What's scarier? That these guys appeared in your FB or that FB has your phone number?

Go through all your social media accounts and review your settings. Why would FB need your phone number? Why would a dating site?

Thanks gang!  I had to adjust my FB settings.  I guess they reset it to be public at some point and never realized it.

If you are using the same device to go on Facebook/ social media as you do for Match they probably create links between the two.  Everything is connected.

match has really gone downhilll the last year. Even less quality women on there and they now took the inbox away. Only way to see if a message was read is if they like you back now and reply! Or you go search for them in search and click the chatbox and open it.

And I agree with this as well.  Match really went downhill in general, I found that out about 2/3 years ago and I said never again after my subscription ended.  So even if you didn't have this interlocking problem you can't win in general.

Big reason why OLD is so bad now is because Match LLC owns most of the major platforms.  So they take more features away now and charge even more.

OKcupid usually had the trashiest women, but even there you'd still find a few okay ones and if you messaged them you had a chance to get a number. Then about year and a half ago they changed the format of OKC. The only way someone sees your message is if they happen to "like" you back. So if they never come across your profile they wont know you messaged them. That caused nearly everyone to leave there.

Tinder went down the toilet when Match bought them. POF Match LLC has taken more features away and it's even worse of a dumpster fire now.

So basically you have desperate men all pay more $$ for OLD and the selection of women is fewer.

If you live in a major metro area it's probably best to just use the free platforms and play the numbers game.

In a older demographic area like I live in it's a waste of time paying for Match because the selection is so little.

match LLC has literally made OLD unusable

Tinder is useless now because you get even less swipes before you gotta pay for GOld. Also Tinder shadow bans you if you delete your account and make a new one right away.

You see Tinder you get a boost to the top when you make a new profile. Eventually you fall to the bottom unless you pay extra $$$$ for boost. So if you use free Tinder it's useless after a few days once they made the shadow ban rule.

Facebook now has a dating feature, so they may be able to cross reference your Match profile or have some way of knowing you're on Match and this is their way to get you to use Facebook's feature.

I keep getting a friend suggestion of this really handsome man who's one of my daughter's father's friends on Facebook. I've yet to find a tactful way of asking him for an introduction and my daughter is never going to help me in that arena, LOL, so I'm stuck with crushing from afar.

So many devices, apps, sites etc are chronically updating mostly to have you click around a lot more for the purposes of ad dollars.

FB is a data mining site so review all your social media settings and security.

As far as dating apps, it's a toss up and most of all depends on what you're looking for and what your demographics are.

There may be some truth to this. Match is a monopoly and owns POF, tinder, Match, OK Stupid.......about half of the major dating sites.

I just watched 60 Minutes Australia about women using Tinder and getting molested/raped by guys.  Tinder (the owner Match) and police do nothing about it so the guys go on to molest other women.  Terrible.

I've been fortunate as the guys I've met are mostly quality guys.  I tend to vet them very carefully and I think I have a very keen judge of character as well and would NEVER go their homes, always in a public place.  I thought about eHarmony but not as many people there.  My friend was on it for a while and met one interesting.
