I'm new here after a long hiatus. I've been taking online courses with this teacher who I know from another group. I've always found her attractive. The other session another student was complementing me on something, then the teacher said off the other compliment "and then there's that smile." Just wondering how do I take this? Does this imply she's attracted or interested? I didn't really look into it because it was in a group setting. I take her as an introvert/extrovert if that makes a difference and I'm 33, I don't know her age but I think she's a bit older.

What did the other student say which prompted the teacher to comment on your smile?

I can't remember exactly but something like everytime I'm on it's gold or I'm gold

No. She's not flirting. Everything is obviously recorded and monitored.

She's probably not stupid enough to lose her job. It's ok to have a crush on the teacher. It's not ok for a teacher to flirt with students.

If you want to date, try some quality dating apps and start talking to and meeting women.

She's not a traditional teacher, she's more of a coach that has her own classes. Not sure if that makes a difference.

There are no prohibitions against student / teacher dating in a setting like this because it's not real school for a grade.  There is no power dynamic.  She would not be using her position to take advantage of you.

That said, it could be flirting or it could just be a complement.  Do nothing.  See how things unfold.  When the class ends, reach out & ask her on a date if you like.

Do you honestly think a teacher would flirt with a student during a remote teaching session with other students present?  That's kind of crazy.  I think it's a stretch to consider what she did flirting.

If you were not attracted to her, would it come off as flirting? I doubt it. Your mind is playing tricks on you.

Nonetheless, if you are paying her you're a client/student and it's inappropriate especially with other students paying and attending the sessions.

I'm not paying, they're free.

Apart from this throwaway remark, are there any other indications she finds you attractive?
Do you know if she is married or has a bf?
What sort of a course is this?

Good point @elaine567   A single compliment is not and never will define whether or not someone is attracted.  Some people throw compliments like confetti - it's just because they like to acknowledge other people's positive attributes.

The comment was the only thing so far that could've indicated "interest." I don't really know her personally,  I don't know if she's single or not. I just started to get to know her in this time. It's for public speaking.

Ok so her comment may have been  about trying to build up your confidence, by complimenting you on your smile, perhaps.
I guess if she is interested she will find ways to let you know as  the time goes on.

I do remember her complimenting others on the way their voice sounded, etc. but I think that's different then commenting on someone's smile.

She is maybe trying to encourage you to smile more, in order to engage with your audience...

Maybe, but it didn't sound that way to me.

If that is the only compliment she ever pays you not directly related to public speaking, it was just a compliment not flirtation.  Keep your eyes & ears open but don't leap to any conclusions just yet

I think you're making something out of nothing, or projecting interest.  In any event, it's not a good idea to get involved with your instructor.  There are several reasons to just leave this alone.

@ikonik people can be attracted in a general sort of way without it being any more than that- appreciating that someone is attractive.

Accept the compliment and enjoy the class!
