Hi.

Here's the story. I met this man at work. He made it a point to come and see me one day - we normally have little if any contact. He told me about himself the second or third time I spoke to him. He broke off his engagement to a woman he has dated for 5 years. They have lived together for at least three years. She became interested in someone else, they patched it up and most recently, she told him she didn't want to live together, just "hang out", so he ended the engagement.

Over the past two months, he has called, emailed, invited me to his house, says he will call, etc.

During this two months, his ex has been in contact with him, calling, emailing, etc. he does talk to her, she wants him back, he asks her to come back, she says no....

I've never been alone with him, knowing that he is very upset and I really don't know what I think of this whole thing.

A week and a half ago, we were "just friends", doing fine. Last Monday, I sent him an email, "hi, how are you..." I didn't hear back that day, but got an email Tuesday, FYI, We decided to work on things, that is why I haven't called.

I wrote back, great, if that is what you want, I wish you the best....ya da ya da.

The next day, he came out to the parking lot, where I am with a friend, after work, and he wants to "meet us for a drink." I left and he stayed and talked to my friend, who told me he is "hurting" for me.

What is up with this? I am too busy to be distracted by this up and down stuff, and I need to know what this means. I do think the ex will end up hurting him again, but that is not really my business. He's old enough and smart enough to know this will happen. They "had" a $7,000 wedding planned for next January...both names on the title of the house, etc.

He is a great guy, but...and that is a very big but.

Please give me some advice. I have not called, emailed or "looked" for him since I got the last email.

I am in the middle of a relationship myself, it is not going that well, but I don't need more stress. I work and am going to school, and want to take the high road

Thanks,

reader
