What baffles me is that this fervor over these freedoms seems to often go hand in hand with a disinterest in independent thinking and a propensity to be easily led.

Add intrusion into people's private medical and relationship matters.

When people say 'freedom' they mean their own vision and version of the world.

Oh lord, and now he's tweeting 'Liberate Michigan!" and liberate other states, right after he said governors decide.  He's nothing more than a chaos agent trying to foment violence.  Again.

Conspiracy theorists have always baffled me; I wonder what their reasoning is. I mean this affects everyone, not just a select few so they're not the only ones having to make adjustments. Is it misinformation, selfishness, 'rage against the system' or just a profound misunderstanding of the concepts of 'civil liberties' and 'freedom'? Do they think they are immune?

Who knows. As if reality isn't baffling enough without even stranger ( usually aggression-based ) attempts at explanation.

I know.  All people being willing to make sacrifices is simply not a reality.  Trump is now emboldening protesters, these people are armed and ready to fight.  Unless we want violence, I think we have to let them.  I don't think we have a choice.  Hopefully schools and nursing homes will remain closed and the majority of people who choose to social distance and stay home will be able to continue to do so.

The pandemic alone is awful enough, this level of resistance to decency and common sense is beyond what my brain can process.  We will remember the virus and we will also remember the unnecessary chaos.  Stay safe.

If they get violent then treat them as terrorists. A bunch of babies should not get to determine how long we are allowed to stop the spread.

No they shouldn't and of course they won't.

They are a manipulated, deluded political distraction I should imagine. Unconscionable.

I don't really wish anything bad on anyone, but I'm wondering how many protesters will end up with the virus as a result of having participated in the protest crowds.   It would be a fitting consequence for their myopia and selfishness.

They are equally likely to get shot or arrested. Disgusting behaviour from them and the president. Bringing a lot of issues to the fore anyway.

Speaking of which, it seems our President is now blaming WHO for the spread of the virus and underplaying the problems in China.

Just a reminder, this was his own 'tweet' on Jan 24th in response to numerous warnings:

China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!

If you've been following the conversation these last few weeks, the problem is a lot of people don't think WHO is sharing China's virus stats with everyone.  You know, China is very secretive and probably told WHO if they want any info, they do it their way or they don't get it.  We give WHO lots of money and we should get accurate information and right now, China is who everyone needs the most transparancy from, but that is the last thing we'll get from them.  So this is a reaction to that.

A Chinese city on the Russian border is entering a "lockdown" due to an increase in coronavirus cases - even as the rest of China cautiously opens up.

In Suifenhe, 1,000 miles from Beijing, people have been ordered to stay indoors, with some exceptions.

The border is closed to people, although not goods, and a 600-bed isolation hospital is being built.

One cannot accuse the Chinese of sitting on their hands...

Why is China an issue or concern anymore?

I don't remember whether that guy with the van covered in Trump and RW stickers who sent bombs to Democrats and press outlets was tried as a terrorist, do you?

And I think the FBI tried to get white supremacists (a few were at the Lansing rally) listed as a terrorist org?

What should be more baffling is that the U.S. Constitution protects those with a disintrest in independent thinking and a propensity to be easily led.
