underpants Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 In the south, I have noticed a lot of deniers, almost (jeez you should be arrested) stuff. My state has scored an F on social distancing. Any tips on social distancing? I know the recommendations but how do you confront rule breakers? 1
preraph Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 If it's against the law now where you're at then report them. if there's a large gatherings and there's not supposed to be call the police. 1
Author underpants Posted April 13, 2020 Author Posted April 13, 2020 over 10 young people had a front yard pool party yesterday, 2 doors down, The police are not doing anything, they are their own gang. What? Did you think they were supposed to protect;/ help you? 1
Happy Lemming Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 My girlfriend and I just got back from a walk in the neighborhood. There were about 10 cars around this one guy's house, a bunch of kids playing a game with bean bags, 5-6 adults drinking beer (front yard). Definitely a party going on... I guess there are "deniers" in every state.
CautiouslyOptimistic Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 The county I live in has an A so I am not seeing any of this. Must be so frustrating!!! I would not confront them.

You can't control others' behavior, you can only control "your" reaction to their behaviour. My dear late dad taught me that. Unless they're posing a threat to others by congregating, best to simply distance yourself as far as you can. Stay safe. If you see them approaching strangers, or breaking the social distancing rule with others, report to police. Where I live, that is what we've been instructed to do. Over the weekend, several tickets were issued to the tune of $1000. One I was surprised by, a woman and her husband were alone at the cliffs taking pics, no one else around but the two of them, and they got ticketed, again $1000. Our city isn't messin around! 1
carhill Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 More than likely there will be many court challenges to the fines/detentions once the courts reopen and the lawyers get geared up for their next income opportunity. In the US there are numerous Constitutional issues involved hence one needs to read the statements of officials carefully and not presume they carry the force of law. Of course when faced with a gun, most people will comply. As of yet I haven't seen marked violent pushback but don't doubt that's coming if .gov overreaches. Where I live we just go about our lives, don't see humans that much anyway, no marked changes, some curtailment of business and traffic. Having been around humans for six plus decades in the US and other countries around the planet I just use common sense and take care of myself. Others do what they do. The bruhaha over the anti-malarial treatment working on -19 brought back memories of taking similar treatments when in Africa and holding the barf bag and hair of one of our group while puking her guts out in the throws of a malaria infection, fortunately which she survived. Bugs were everywhere, both the visible and invisible kind. Living conditions were pretty primitive outside the lodges and small towns. Ironically, Africa doesn't seem to be returning many cases of -19, nor has Mexico or central/south America. All the places we routinely think disease rampages through. One would be wise to avoid the US, looking at the infection maps, for now anyway, deniers or not.
d0nnivain Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Two doors down I'd call the cops because it could impact your safety. As for the rest of them, let 'em die. I hate to be brutal but that is the price of freedom. People get to make stupid choices. 2
skywriter Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 In my state, apparently your picture makes the local newspaper and the local news, as well as the class 2 misdemeanor charge. There was a party of about 70 people broken up and another party broken up in another town. People.....smh...

Ellener Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Stay off the internet Seriously, I think expecting people to come to realisation and awareness and change overnight, it isn't going to happen for everyone. The US president was a denier in this at first and he was getting the facts as they happened. 3
major_merrick Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 How do you avoid them? Stay in your house and close the drapes like a good little prole. And don't call the cops, because when the deniers hear about it they will come for you with torches and pitchforks.... In all seriousness, staying inside is your best way of avoiding people in general. I think people are mostly doing the social distancing thing. The longer this goes on, the more I am joining the "denier" camp. It is getting ridiculous. The big threat isn't the virus, it is how nutty people are acting. At this point my county is more closed because of crazy folks than it is because of worry about the spread of the virus.
carhill Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 After Trump's press conference today and the announcements in the press from governors in the west, it appears the tone is being set to allow the virus rancor to subside and Americans to get back to their usual and sundry disagreements, I hope 1
Ruby Slippers Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 It's not my style to police other people unless they're bothering me or putting me at risk. I'm mostly staying home, so haven't encountered anything problematic. Some people get as close as ever at the grocery store, crowding me while I'm shopping. I just move away and keep my distance as suggested. 2
Gaeta Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 Where I am from we are following the isolation at a very high rate 80% +. We also have a phone line to report people and we reported so many of them that our government had to come on tv to tell us to slow down on the reporting haha!. A man got a ticket for dropping his wife at the grocery store and waiting for her in his car. You get the picture. It's practically impossible to be a denier here, if you express not beleiving in the isolation you'll have an herd of beleivers walk all over you. On the news the other night they were showing southern states churches being full of people. A journalist asked a woman leaving the Church if she understood the risks, she replied 'I am covered in the blood of Jesus nothing can happen to me'. You cannot debate with these people. Just let them be. 2
preraph Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 ^ I'm getting mad locally because we have a group of people wanting extra care or compensation or all of it because they want to believe their virus numbers are higher for some reason other than the fact they won't stop congregating at church! They want extra money and meds because of what they are not willing to do! Grrrrr. 1 1

preraph Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 Well, it's a problem because freedom of religion is part of the Constitution, same reason why gun stores are still open. If it's in the Constitution, you can't do anything about it really, except hope these morons are smarter than they are.

Ellener Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 Speaking of which, it seems our President is now blaming WHO for the spread of the virus and underplaying the problems in China. Just a reminder, this was his own 'tweet' on Jan 24th in response to numerous warnings: China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi! 1
gaius Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 The WHO is a UN agency and the US doesn't listen to the UN about anything. Trump especially. So to blame them, like they had one iota to do with how we responded to the virus, is just utterly laughable. It seems like the rats are trying to flee the sinking blame ship. Both Fauci and the CDC director have come out recently and claimed their recommendations weren't followed. What they failed to mention is their recommendations weren't great in the first place. Right back on the boat you two.... 2
simpycurious Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 OP, I do not see much "social distancing" either. I also think that it will get worse as summer arrives. People simply will not stay inside when they can go to the beach or lake. The water is simply too enticing plus the allure to launch the boats will take over. 1

I’m proud to be aligned with a Christian group in America, our meetings have always been online, the pandemic has just strengthened our position and expanded our efforts in seeking like minded people. We have more global members sharing online services, fellowship and worship. It’s wonderful to witness. There is so much ignorance out there!! I had a long conversation with my youngest son earlier, he’s grown up with me working in the laboratory and yet I still had to explain the difference between bacterial and viral infection and the use of antibiotics! Thank you (eye roll) Trump for endorsing the use of antibiotics for a viral infection and lowering the world IQ. 4
Fletch Lives Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 It's human nature to be slow to change. How many of you were wearing gloves, masks, social distancing and staying home in February? Heck, I'm a pretty smart guy but I just started to think about it the last week of February and it took a few days for it to sink in. So don't blame Trump when almost everybody was slow to act. Again, it's just Psychology. The only people who were prepared were virus experts/Doctors. That's just the way it works with a 100 year event. I think a large number of people are taking this emergency seriously. But a large number of people are not.
Gaeta Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 The only people Trump is hurting by withdrawing his contribution to WHO are people in poor countries that don't have the infrastructures to manage and fight a pandemic exemple Africa. 1
