I live with my parents and they don't want me to work until the corona virus is over.

Once we have a way to battle it we’ll be more secure.  We’ll feel more in control.  

That’s how people are.  Nobody wants to chance dying just to make money, well most people anyway.  Some go to work because they have no choice but to show up to work every day,  Some are even getting hazard pay to be there. 

If your parents are willing to support you through this then why do you feel that you have to go to work?

Well it's just I am worried I will run out of money eventually if I don't take a job.  

 

Plus who says we will be able to battle it?   We still haven't even come out with a vaccine to common colds, or HIV, or even a way to beat cancer hardly, so what makes people think that this one will be beatable?  Judging by the increased numbers over the weeks, shouldn't we accept that we are just all going to get it, and accept the inevitable, or at least we are going to all get it long before any vaccine is made and approved by the FDA?

Yea sure we all might get it but it doesn’t mean you show throw a keg party.

You have to weigh it out...what’s worse?  Possibly running out of money or possibly causing your grandmother to suffer or even die?

Well it's just that my parents had no problem with working during the H1N1 crisis or the SARS crisis, or even the regular flus I got over the years when working in public, when my Grandma could have gotten any of those and possible died.  So why are they worried about this one particularly?  Plus we are avoiding seeing my Grandma anyway out of fear?  So if we are avoiding her anyway, does it make a difference if I work or not?

Im not them, I’m sure they have their reasons, maybe it’s a control thing, idk.  Point is you live under their roof so while you’re doing that you need to follow their rules.  It’s really that simple.

Well I thought perhaps I could appeal to my parents more.  I am investing a lot of money into a career goal, which has now been put on hold because of the virus.  But if I invest in the goal after, and don't have a job, that makes it a lot harder in case the investment goes sour.

Where is it, in Spain maybe?? that if you get this and need a ventilator you won’t get one if you’re over 60?  

I know I read that’s happening somewhere in the world.  Maybe they read that piece too.

I don't know abut Spain but I heard they had a cut off for ventilators for the over 60s in Italy.
I guess if health services come under pressure it could happen anywhere.

Right and like 95% of the people who died there were over 60.  Gee I wonder why...

Yeah I think there is a shortage of medical supplies here too. But things like that, is where I don't feel we are going to beat this virus.  We are a turtle fighting a gorilla, and I think we just need to accept that, and not let the economy down as a result.  If we die we die, but at least we go out fighting die like human beings.  Isn't that better, than letting it effect our last days to the point where we cannot do anything, even though we cannot beat it anyway?

How do I convince my parents it's better to go out swinging?

Okay, good point.  I will call back and turn down the job.   It's just when I do make the movie, after the crisis is over, I am worried about not having much money in the end, and worried that if I don't have a job to go back to, that will make it worse...  But if that's best not to take one now, then I won't.  And I don't want to be selfish.

If you truly don’t want to be selfish then think about their future instead of just your own.  

If you’re only focused on yourself (which I’m sorry to say you seem to be) you are being the very definition of selfish.

Although I do think that you have to respect your parents wishes. It’s their home, it’s their rules. You could very likely put their lives at risk if you go out, so they have every right to ask you to do what every government, employer (whenever possible), media source, politician, and joe blow on the street is telling you to do - stay home!

Well I just feel that the government is wrong that staying home is going to make things better cause it keeps spreading and getting worse.  Their is no beating it and we are all going to get it later on.  So why fight the inevitable.  Why remain in denial that we are not going to get it?  You can't try to defuse a bomb that's already gone off.

As I understand it, we’re staying home to “flatten the curve” and to (hopefully) reduce an overwhelming flood on the hospitals, who might otherwise not have enough beds, personnel, or ventilators. In other words, we’re trying to slow the rate of infection over time so that our healthcare systems can better handle the influx of cases. It’s a chance to save lives.
