With time on my hands I was reading the Smithsonian April 2020 issue,  and noticed on page 12 a blurb about an article in the November, 2017 issue.

The Birth of a Killer:  Melinda Liu asks if China is ground zero for a future virus pandemic

That article is still available on the Smithsonian website, I just read it, thanks for the reference.

The last few paragraphs have a lot of meaning for our current situation: getting the word out as soon as possible with transparency and urgency, global cooperation, and making sure the whole world is prepared (the response is only as strong as the weakest link).
