Ruby Slippers
I did a mini workout of crunches, squats, etc. yesterday, then took a long walk in my neighborhood in the late afternoon. I'm trying to build momentum out of the breakup blahs. I wasn't very active at all last week, so this felt good. I tried to go to this gorgeous, huge outdoor pool last weekend, but it rained. The weather looks iffy for the week ahead, but once it's nice I definitely wanna get away to that sunny escape.
regine_phalange
Working, cooking, speaking on the phone, drawing, decluttering (I literally have nothing else left to declutter). And online courses.
preraph
I was tied up on the phone earlier, government red tape, and then ordered groceries and went and got them, and the whole time I need to be working, so that's what I'm about to do. Now I haven't much heart for it, though. I feel I've already put in a day's work.
sothereiwas
Put a bow on my current project, called it a day after a mere 8 hours. Maybe I'll take the family out someplace in a bit.
Happy Lemming
I went to the tile store this morning for some thinset mortar mix. There was a guy at the door checking to make sure each person had a mask on and counting the number of people in the store at any one time. I got there just as they opened and there were only a few customers in the entire store. (this place is HUGE) It was quite easy to keep 6 feet of distance. I put a couple of bags of thinset on a flatbed cart and took 'em up to the register. I backed away from the cart as the checkout clerk had to come out of her both to scan them with the scan gun. I was sure to give her at least 6 feet of distance. After she was back in her shielded booth, I then inserted my credit card into the machine. All in all, the whole process seemed to work.
lana-banana
The farmers' markets are open here. It's certainly not the same experience---walking around the markets hand-in-hand on weekend mornings while browsing and sharing ideas is one of my favorite things---but the food is there, and that's what counts. I've picked up ample kohlrabi to turn into pickles, made a souffle with hakurei turnip greens and roasted the turnips, and this past week I made a great salad with local purslane and cherries. Purslane is one of my favorite salad greens; I can't believe it's just a weed. I'd put it in everything if it grew year-round. I'm looking forward to a weekend full of grilled veggies and great wine. Tomorrow we're throwing some veggie burgers on the grill with our homemade pickles, homemade mustards and ketchups and mayos, and some fruit. One of my favorite things to do is to chop up strawberries and rhubarb, toss in some maple syrup, sweet vermouth, and balsamic vinegar, and then just roast 'em (or put over the grill if it's hot). It's great over a bowl of yogurt or vanilla ice cream. We're right at the end of strawberry season so this weekend will be it. But hey, roasted blackberries with cassis and a touch of gin are great too!

preraph
I dyed my hair today. I looked to see about cutting it again, but it's not too bad, just kind of long for summer sweatiness is all. And then I made breakfast tacos. Mostly, I'm working though. Now I'm watching the Egyptian dust cloud move in, plus we have some rain and wind off to one side. Hopefully, the two of those will get together and cancel out the dust. At times, it looks normal. At times, it looks hazy like when there's a hurricane in the gulf, and at times it gets that lunar eclipse kind of light. And I doubt the main part is here yet. You can't really see brown like a dust storm at all. Just hazy off in the distance. Edited June 26, 2020 by preraph

Ellener
My beloved city ( it's several cities really ) showed large lines for Covid testing today. The rains and storms and flooding subsided. I am busy praying and preparing, the ( Covid ) storm is upon us etc etc. We in the Gulf Coast know how to cope with a storm, it's always love and support and encourage and rescue each other. It'll be okay. But I am a bit scared for 'my own people' and my mental health for another few weeks in lockdown, if I'm honest. Bracing myself. It'll be okay. Hope everyone else is doing ok!

So I'll pick her up next week and proceed to dye and cut her hair. We are trying Medium Copper Blonde this time. Today, I started installing Durock Cement board on my kitchen countertops as a substrate for the granite tile. I figure the best way to do this is to install tile on one side of the kitchen (counter) at a time, complete it, then do the other side. That way I'll still have an area to prepare food and make my morning coffee. I still have to figure out what to do about the backsplash. I'm leaning towards white subway tile for the backsplash, I think that should look OK next to the gray granite. I've done other houses with white tile as a backsplash and it always gives the kitchen a clean traditional look.
preraph
Sounds nice. Doing one side a time is smart except possibly for cleanup. (twice) I think backsplashes can get a little busy alright. Of course, you can sometimes continue the countertop on up part way and then just paint above it. You could always use a color that also tied it into the walls or floor, too. Yes, I'll take the granite tile up 4 inches, which is a traditional height for a backsplash, but above that until you get to the upper cabinets is currently just painted drywall. It isn't all that appealing and I was thinking white subway tile would look good and be easy to clean. Also white subway tile is quite inexpensive (at my tile store) and easy to install. I still haven't decided if I'll keep this house or sell it. Buyers always seem to like white tile.

Ruby Slippers
Ugh, there's a baby possum in my sun room. From what I'm reading, that means there's almost certainly a whole family around. I sprayed some water at him and told him to go away, but he didn't seem to understand 😛 I made a few calls, and animal removal companies charge $200 to trap it and starting at $500 to seal up all the holes so it doesn't happen again. I guess I have to decide if I'm gonna get DIY with this problem or pay someone else to do it.
Ruby Slippers
I found a guy who has rave reviews and much better rates. He's coming over Monday morning. I'm fine paying a reasonable price for this service. That sun room needs to be sealed. Squirrels were playing in there last year. No bueno!

Ruby Slippers
The little guy slinked away into a hole in the corner that leads who knows where. I left the sun room door open so he can get out. I'm glad the guy is coming to inspect and seal it up. I knew since the inspection this would probably need to be taken care of at some point. I went to Chick Fil A and I'm considering getting started on my tax return. Fun city 😛

Ruby Slippers
Yes, I'm leaving the door open till the pro comes to scope it out on Monday. I'm not sure how the baby got in there unless his mom dropped him off for safekeeping. Hopefully this little possum family will get the message and scram before this guy traps and hauls them off somewhere.
