greymatter
I took a long walk over the weekend with my BF. It started pouring while we were walking but fortunately we had rain gear. I also went to Home Depot and bought some plants, did grocery shopping and worked in my yard. I recently bought a new mower that has a rechargeable battery and I'm loving it after having to drag an extra long extension cord around with me for the last 7 years with my old mower. But I hadn't charged it and so only had enough charge to do the front yard yesterday. Oh, and my furnace stopped working two weeks ago and I had a technician come out today, as much as I'd like to have avoided that due to the virus. The tech was wearing an N95 mask and gloves and was pretty careful, but he forgot and touched a few surfaces that he didn't have to (as in, he was resting his hand unnecessarily on my kitchen counter, eeeeek, but at least he had put those gloves on right before coming in). I definitely need a new furnace (mine is 25 years old and is basically dead). I'm going to try and get a few more estimates before going ahead with that work. I figure I may as well get it done soon before it starts getting cold again in a few months and demand is higher. Maybe I can even try to negotiate for a lower price, given the lack of work and the fact that it's getting close to summer. I also learned today that that are going to be furloughs at work. So not a wonderful day overall for my finances, but as long as I keep my job, I should be okay. But, who knows what the future holds. No job seems safe anymore. Even the workers who have been on the front lines and taking care of +Covid patients are being furloughed, after all of the care they have provided for everyone at great risk to themselves, due to low patient numbers at clinics and hospitals. This includes some physicians. So who knows, maybe I'll join the ranks of the unemployed if the virus doesn't stop getting passed along. I'm really going to tighten my belt just in case. Sorry to be a downer. I'm not depressed though maybe I sound like I am. Just reporting the latest for me.
preraph
I just saw the Blue Angels. Of course it was very brief, as usual. they weren't really close enough for me to get the full impact of the roar. But they laid a good vapor trail.
schlumpy
I just got back from Target and Giant Eagle. The traffic I encountered is almost back to normal. Lots of street projects like repaving going on. While at Target I'd say about 2 out of ten wore a mask and one out of thirty had on gloves. Store wasn't busy. They only had two registers working along with the self-serve registers. People are staying away from one another so the social distancing seems to have taken. I'd say it was about the same at Giant Eagle. None of the people stocking the shelves wore masks but they were not GE employees. No problems with food selection. They even had my wife's favorite Bread. I tried to get some large Lima Beans and there were none. Last time there were none either. We should have silos filled with Lima Beans. I have no explanation as to there absence and I can't do any investigative work without visiting other stores which would increase my exposure so I guess it will have to be one of those unsolved mysteries I shall wonder about for the rest of my unnatural life...…... Much of it prepackaged in the cooler. I bought some bacon because the darn Preraph started me thinking about bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches. Lots of cold cuts. It was available. I did hear just yesterday about a looming meat shortage. Of course I only go to one store and there are many grocery stores in the city.

preraph
I'm fresh out of work and I'm kind of worried about it. So I need to pay bill and finish taxes and see exactly how much money I'm going to be needing by July. Meanwhile, I have been recording all the old Gunsmokes and I'm having a fun time talking to the TV. I feel like I'd fit right in with Doc and Chester.

jah526
I’ve started watching Leave it to Beaver reruns in the morning. Something appealing about a simpler time with simpler problems right now. Still watching Little House on the Prairie reruns with my work pal in the afternoons. It’s fun but he’s way more into it than I am. Also started watching Adrianne Curry’s livestream. She’s an Avon lady now hawking her wares from a cabin in Montana. She talks about everything while putting on her makeup. I don’t agree with all of her political views but she is fairly entertaining.

I think it's one of the funniest shows ever. I haven't had any TV that had it on there for decades and I really miss it. I don't understand why it's not on any of these stupid channels I'm paying for with cable.

Friend of mine sent me a link to an episode since I'd never seen it before. I was kinda meh on it (maybe I'll have to watch another ep) but I was very intrigued by one part. A girl in the ep goes into a diner and orders a strawberry wonton sundae. I was like 😮 that sounds delicious. I spent the next hour online trying to find out something about this. Nearest I came to a recipe was one that said to get to get some wonton wrappers and coat them with melted butter and sugar and cinnamon. Then put them in muffin tins and bake. After letting them cool you can put a scoop of ice cream in them (as well as strawberries and other sundae toppings). Think I may have to try this...

Prudence V
I often work from home anyway, so I’m continuing work as usual. Except teaching has moved online, instead of f2f, so I did that over Zoom. Our students are mostly from really poor backgrounds so it’s a struggle for them, and exams aren’t going to be easy. We’ve got weekly family Zooms, which get bigger each week as more people join up, and those are fun. We’re seeing more of each other than we did before lockdown. We also have regular Zooms with friends - though it’s hard to fit them all in, sometimes! Sometimes just a random chat, sometimes something more focused - like, we watch a film (on Netflix) And then meet on Zoom later to discuss it. The weather here is slowly improving, so we’re spending time in the garden, topping up our serotonin levels, trying to encourage the bees and discourage the nettles. We get all our shopping online, and only go out to collect meds (for ourselves or our pup). We’re very lucky. I expect I’ll lose my job at some point - it’s an internally funded fixed-term contract, and universities are struggling financially - but while I have it, I’m using the £ I’m earning to support some NGOs in my home country who are providing food, water and other essentials to marginalised communities. It’s not much, but it helps me to feel I’m doing something useful.

chillii
Finally finished my last job so l've just been cruizin over a wk now and having a well earned rest , gf got back up home alright but my daughters been staying a bit too so that's been nice. 10am , in bed , exactly what l've needed haha. d and me went up town the other day , so nice to be up there again been 5 or 6wks , joint was about 50 % so it was great to see some people still out and doin stuff , just carefully . All the shops had sanitizer on the counters so you did some of that on your way out , good idea really. Finally did the back brakes on the car yesterday , putting it of 6mths , gotta go out later , can't wait to drive it's gonna be unreal having brakes again , the luxury haha. But ahh , mainly just enjoying doin nothing again for awhile , or whatever l feel like doin , need a rest so it's fine with me. Am starting to miss the norm out and about though l must admit , they're talking at least a few more wks for my state , was doin really well but then a cluster of new cases popped up , pissed off at that but it's gonna happen, and will again. It's just that you feel it downs the spirits with people when we felt we were doing so well. But you know to it's also gonna happen and it'll set back the opening up again , right when we thought we were close. Edited May 8, 2020 by chillii
carhill
At 61, discovering muscle aches I didn't know existed after doing some manual post-hole digging today. For anyone who wants good exercise, dig some 3' deep holes with one of those two-handled posthole diggers. Foolish me sold the tractor mounted digger too soon, ha. Pro tip, moisten/soak the soil around the hole with water prior, it keeps sandy soil stuck together and in general makes digging easier. Playing laser bug tag with the cat adds some humor and breaks the monotony. More trucks and tractors out and about but still deathly quiet otherwise. Some days I feel a bit embarrassed making noise with the tractor out in the field it's so quiet. Gotta disc and mow though. Part of life.
