chillii
l got my second hand new car a few wks back so seems l haven't had any work on l've been playing round with that as it wasn't on the road when l bought it. The guy lost his job and let everything laps because he's been too broke . So l hopefully got a really good buy , about half price , but l do have to do a few things to it to put it back on the road . Only light superficial stuff but must admit l'm over it now and just want the thing done. Funny how you think you'll enjoy doin something like this again , yeah right , just give it a few wks and you'll be over that idea.
MrPlop
Work laid me off towards the end of March. Reopened again in late June, replaced the entire department. Been unemployed since, gaining weight, honestly tired of getting benefits believe it or not. Really want to go back to work, but I don't want to end up at Amazon at 3 in the morning for $16 an hour for 3 days a week, not being picky but I don't want to fall into the "it's just temporary/the only thing available atm" trap. Ex gf keeps trying to contact me years and a child later though lmao.

A lot of temp-to-hire jobs that never hired. lol

Ruby Slippers
I visited my parents this weekend - cheeseburgers, good movies, and playing cards - saw one of my brothers as well. My mom is very good at card games and always used to beat me, but this time we were neck and neck. They're doing well. My dad keeps going on about his old age and how he's falling apart and I just tell him he's tough and he's going to live to 120. I picked up some classic family photos because I'm finally at the point in life when I want to hang cute pictures on the wall. My dad looked like Elvis in his youth and I have a great pic of him looking cool, also some very sweet photos of my parents when they were first falling in love, obviously both had stars in their eyes. I said almost 50 years is a long time to put up with somebody, and they both agreed haha
schlumpy
The cats demanded a food run so off to Target I went. Traffic was light today. Lots of road construction going on. Almost everyone I saw was a wearing a mask except for those walking dogs or just walking. Stopped at staples for some printer ink cartridges for the printer. Damn they are expensive. After Staples I did some thinking. The last two food runs I was on ended with my wife asking me if I'd got her a Frosty from Wendy's. I hadn't, so I got a frosty look. The question I was pondering was - do I blow it off a third time? After all my wife uses a walker to get around. What can she do to me? I still have to sleep. To Wendy's I went. Got her an extra chocolate frosty for later in the freezer.
mrs rubble
We have a second outbreak here and are in lockdown again, testing in the lab is crazy, the workload is 10x normal. Also we have to wear masks, which we didn't in the last lockdown.
Prudence V
Back at work after some leave. We decided not to go away, which was the right decision in the light of how things played out, and for once we had some decent weather. But then, “going away for the holidays” seems to be a very british thing, it’s not something we ever did back home: those long, six-week summer holidays were all about finding new ways to stop yourself getting bored, maybe taking day trips to national parks or going for hikes in the mountains or to the beach. So it just felt like an artificial bubble had burst, and reality had returned. We have managed a couple of socially-distanced garden lunches with friends, and it’s even starting to feel more normal not to hug each other.
schlumpy
My wife had a dental surgery appointment today so I had an hour to myself and decided to take a look see at my former life. I abandoned her to her fate and headed down to a small lake to take a walk around it's a 1.2 mile trail. Lots of people there and all without masks. Not one runner, walker, bicyclist or people on rollerblades had a mask on. No one made fun of me but some of the women with kids kept me within their field of vision. I walked the trail for the first time this year. I watched university girls whiz by on carbon fiber racing bikes. I've been up and down that bike trail hundreds of times. I even have pet names for sections of it like "The flats" and the "Ins and Outs" or "Many bridges." The last one I borrowed from Glacier National Parks "Many Glacier" area. What a year this has been. I made my way back to the car and back to the dental office. My wife was trying to smile at me around the cotton stuffed into her mouth. She's always happy to see me.

Honestly wouldn't even occur to me to put on a mask if I was running, walking, bicycling, or rollerblading outdoors on a trail at a lake. Are masks mandatory everywhere where you are? d0nnivain
Masks are supposed to be worn when you will be closer than 6 feet away from other people. When we walk the dog on the trail, we bring them & dangle them from our ears, pulling them up when we pass close by other people. Most others do the same. Those who don't, I make a point to turn away from.

Most people here don't wear them outdoors, that I've seen -- only where they are required, like at farmer's markets, the zoo, etc.

All the park employees were wearing masks while they trimmed the grass along the trail edges. I'm not being critical. It's just an observation.
Ruby Slippers
I just made an appointment for next weekend for a haircut and highlights. I haven't been to the salon in at least 6 months, cut my hair once at home a few months ago. It's getting very long, and while I'd be fine to cut it again, I'm not feeling the home highlight kits. I've tried doing that kind of thing before and ended up with orange hair, so I'll leave it to the pros. I'm blonde with no gray, so it could wait - but the highlights do give it that oomph and it will be a fun splurge. I might end up cutting my own hair before the appointment to save the $35 on that. Ruby Slippers
My work is getting more interesting. We're starting to put together some of the visuals for my big project and they're looking so fantastic. I said from the beginning I want to do the best version of this in our field and make a splash and I think we're going to do it. I feel so blessed to be doing lucrative work I love for the public good. This is truly a dream job. It's exciting that my project has an amazing creative team and nice budget behind it. I am blessed! 🥰
Happy Lemming
I had to clean up the yard this morning. A nasty wind storm blew through last night, just lost some small limbs, nothing major (which is good)!!
Timshel
Today was nerve wracking for me...my son had his second divers license road test, he rolled through a stop sign on the first. Thanks to covid, I had to sit in the passenger seat with a walkie talkie. The joy of having road test person do this was not mine. Parents, do you hear me. He passed today, so yay, I have a driver.... Also, my daughter achieved her learner permit today as well....I am happy/relieved/proud and frightened out of my gourd.
basil67
Making masks for goth friends. Lovely black, purple and dark red patterns. Selling for AU$15, which is about right for costs and labour. And I really enjoy working with lovely fabric. If any of you are making masks, I have discovered that cheap polypropylene mattress protectors cut up to make good filters. (I fixed a friend's overlocker (serger) a couple of days ago and she gave me a protector as thanks)
Emilie Jolie
Wasted an entire day yesterday trying to complete a Rubik's cube. I used to do it in minutes in my youth; clearly lost more than a few brain cells in the ageing process. Had to resort to youtube for help with the 3rd layer. 😬🥴 Really need to get back into work asap...
Ruby Slippers
I put the bug in a coworker's ear to coordinate a Halloween costume on our team video call with me the week of. We only have to do waist up. We're gonna be these two particular lady rock stars from the 80s. Hey, you gotta have fun where you can. I'm sure it's gonna be a lot of fun 😎

basil67
Shopping around for better insurance deals. Have saved a fortune on home and contents by finding a different insurer plus reducing contents insurance down to just the basics we'd need to start over. Switched car insurance to an over 50's insurer and have saved nearly $100 per month.
