my dad has died and I am in another country

Recommended Posts

Hello!

This morning I got call from my family with news that my dad has passed away. It feels realy unrealistic now - like you hear this but can't understand this. Feeling totally numb now. I have moved to another country overseas 6 months ago and last visited my family on Christmas. But with this serious situation in the world it is impossible for me to come to funeral because borders are closed and there is literally no flights and I wouldn't risk with traveling anyway. Is there anyone who has been in similar situation and couldn't attend funeral? How you coped with this?

Stay safe on this difficult time 💗

Yes, my father died three years ago when I was overseas. So sorry for your loss. Some people are doing 'virtual funerals' for the current situation, I sent flowers and a donation to dad's favourite charity, and my sister kept me apprised of the arrangements, we spoke on the 'phone at first, and still email daily.

Thinking of you and your family.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your Dad and also for this situation you’re now in.

I’ve never been in your shoes with not being able to attend a funeral but I do have my Dad as my angel, just like you do now.

This is a terrible time for a lot of people and I’m so sorry that you’re one of the ones whose times just got worse.

Sending my love to you xo

I'm sorry for your loss. It's hard to cope up especially with everything that's going on. You couldn't go out to maybe ease your pain, so maybe it's best to like talk to someone over the phone. Watch movies, maybe? It's hard, but you got this. Stay strong.

It must have been very sad - sorry for your loss. My parents live in a different city and I constantly worry I won't be around to help in case they have a fall or something. My parents have always encouraged me to go live my life. I am lucky as I have a sister who lives closer to my parents. She is their go to person. Loss is always difficult to cope with especially if one feels one didn't do the right thing.
