ironpony Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 So right now I am on unemployment insurance, but have got a temporary filmmaking job, working on a production. The production shut down because of the corona virus until further notice. In order to get unemployment insurance and fill out the forms properly, I have to tell them how much I am going to be paid for this production I worked on. However, they all shut down and went home so I do not know how much I am being paid, or when it's coming in. I tried talking to the producer, but in order to do that, I have to go through the assistant director, who then has to go through someone and it goes up a chain of command. It took a while but I got a hold of the producer on his office phone answering machine. But he hasn't gotten back to me yet and I don't even know if his office is open cause of the virus. Is there thing I can do that I am missing, to find out how much I am going to be paid, in order to fill out these reports?
basil67 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 If you don't know how much you're getting paid, it sounds like you haven't signed an employment contract with them yet. This makes me suspect that you're not officially employed with them yet. If not, I'm not sure that you can use this job's payment information. (disclaimer - I'm not in Canada, so laws may be different) 1
Author ironpony Posted March 18, 2020 Author Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) I signed a contract and handed it back to them. I don't have a copy of it, but I was just very eager to want a job, that I guess it didn't occur to me a few weeks later that I would be back on unemployment insurance, and they would pack up and leave and I would need to know how much I was being paid right away after. But aside from that though, I have to fill out the report and turn it in, and it's two days late already because of this. The report cannot be sent in on their site and their site says I HAVE to fill out much how much I will be payed for the work. So what do I do then? Edited March 18, 2020 by ironpony

How can you do business like that?? Always keep a copy of the contracts you sign!!! You could have taken a pic of from your phone or something... Now, try to remember, was it signed by them or did you sign it first? When you sign a contract, always make sure they sign it first so it's automatically active when you sign. If they were going to sign after you, they might not have signed it! So that contract is like toilet paper. So, was it signed by them? If so, make up an excuse, like, can you send me a copy of the contract because the copy I saved on phone is a bit cut on the right side... If it wasn't signed... try with: Hi, can you send me a copy with the signed contract? And then see what happens... Internal report for the company in order to get paid or for unemployment insurance? If it's the latter, don't send anything. I don't think you must declare that if you haven't gotten paid yet. You can do it next month if you get anything. Some jobs pay right away, so I think what counts is when you cash in the money, then you declare it. Edited March 19, 2020 by justwhoiam

The took it away. However, the money has now entered my account so it's all good now I guess. Sorry for bringing it up, as I didn't know it would enter my account this soon.

Guess if they hadn't sign it. You wouldn't have gotten anything. Be wiser!
Author ironpony Posted March 19, 2020 Author Posted March 19, 2020 Oh okay thanks. Well I just really wanted a job after not having one for a while, so I guess I didn't want to be too picky, about contracts.
Art_Critic Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 Seems to me it should be zero on any form you fill out, you haven't gotten paid, you are not working as it's shutdown and there is no guarantee of a paycheck. ZERO.. don;t hurt your future benefits over something that is an unsure thing at this point
Author ironpony Posted April 12, 2020 Author Posted April 12, 2020 Oh I meant how do I figure out how much I get paid, for the work I did before the shutdown. But the money is now in my account, so it's all good now. Thanks everyone for the input :).
