Question about how the corona virus works, if anyone knows?

Economies recover. You asked about how it all works, people have answered. If you are going to be a film-maker you will need a lot more positivity and resilience in the face of obstacles I'd say. And some passionate interest in things like this unusual global occurrance? Scary as it all is it's also fascinating and a challenge to our human spirit, strengths and abilities. New technologies and ideas will emerge, and world-changing demonstrations of compassion and empathy.

Oh it's just that no one wants to make a movie with the virus going around.  So I thought I was more positive than actors and crew and other filmmakers who are shutting down in comparison.

millions of species have gone extinct before and many millions of species will go extinct in the future... viruses, bacteria, natural disasters, meteorites, changing environments... but the earth will live on in one form of another... it's arrogant to think you might be there the whole time...

Well I think that if this goes on for a few more weeks and they do close the stores, there is going to be riots in the streets if people cannot get food, so I feel a more long term plan B should be in the works as oppose to hoping this thing will blow over.

So the number of deaths in Italy on the coronavirus seems much higher than North America, but why is that?  Is it because Europe has a lot more people who smoke compared to North America, so their lungs do not hold up against the virus as well?

More likely because it has taken root earlier (and more broadly) in Italy.

I did see a graph a week ago that assured that most of the deaths in Italy to that point were in people who had already seen their 80th birthdays.

 

And if you take the USA out of the equation, the numbers in all of The Americas  are remarkably low compared to Europe and Asia.

Also, places on or south of the equator have been less impacted by corona deaths than their northern counterparts  (even when considering that only 10-12% of the world lives down there).

There is also another concern.  A lot of people are hoping that the vaccine will be ready soon.  However, it takes the FDA an average of 12 years to approve a new medicine, or at least so I read.  So if that's true, than wouldn't this virus be long gone, before a vaccine was available?

Hi, in February in Milan we had the fashion week with people from all over the world. There were 188 events planned. Although around 1,000 Chinese people didn't come to the event, we had Chinese tourists around and people from all over the world. Only on the last day of the fashion shows, the region banned any public event/gathering, as contagion was getting serious. We had around 70 cases in all in the area. You know how it went down for us. Contagion in Italy came from China and Germany. That's all we know. Then it was spread by residents.

Washing hands is a nice measure that anyone can adopt, but does it really work? If that were enough, you wouldn't see so many thousands of people dying, and so many doctors who died while on duty. They'd need anticontamination suits like people working in labs that handle viruses. Deaths grow wildly when the number of people needing intensive care and ventilators starts being unmanageable (10 to 50 times higher than normal). In NYC now, if numbers keep growing, they'll have to send patients out of the city, and maybe out of state (e.g. to New Jersey). We also have many old people. But ICUs are full with people of any age.

So if a person were to get corona, but beat it and survived, does it work like the flu, where you immune system will block you from getting it again for the next few months.  Or can you get corona again in no time, right after you beat it?

the expectation is that a previous exposure will give immunity going forward but there is no certainty on that yet, there may well be a Covid 20 indeed to come and will that strain be sufficiently different to re-infect- they are only likely to find the answers in the coming months,

a full vaccine may well be 18 months away,

however positively people are being observed developing antibodies which are resisting the virus,

it is hoped that the harvesting of these antibodies can be used to treat patients in the upcoming months and hopefully societies can begin to return to a degree of normality from June/ July,

this is the opinion of a micro biologist who is an acquaintance of mine.
