BlindsidedTwice Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Has anyone here ever ran a 50 mile race? I have run several marathons, and I ran 30 miles in one day on my own around town... But I really really want to run an official 50 miler. Any suggestions? Tips? Advice? (Warnings? lol)
Mrin Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I live in a place full of ultra runners. Aside from knee and foot health being a huge priority, the one thing they always say is critical is understanding diet and prepping for an ultra run. Basically, you can run a marathon powered mainly by food/drink etc. When you start doing ultra distances (50 - 100) miles you will have to burn a lot of body mass. Knowing how to get some extra mass on you before an ultra is critical. I remember one guy saying that when he sees people with higher fat percentages he doesn't see fat, he sees miles... 1
Lotsgoingon Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 I'm sure there are online communities of ultrarunners. I am not a long distance runner ... I prefer intervals and sprints ... and yet ... I get the lure the training for 50 miles ... some so real about that. Search for online communities. I think you want a forum like LS for ultra marathoners. 1
simpycurious Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 never that far for me but lots of running in my life and I would say pay very close attention to your ankles, knees, and hips..... asphalt, concrete, pavement running really takes a toll on the joints over time
