The flu regularly mutates into new versions and old versions die out or find a new target audience. If a virus cannot find enough suitable hosts ie people who are not immune or people in general to replicate itself then it will cease to exist. Just like an animal whose preferential habitat is lost will reduce in numbers till it becomes extinct. Yearly we look around the world for versions of the flu virus that are causing trouble and we make vaccines for them. The "flu vaccine" contains many different vaccines and they change the composition on a yearly basis. Sometimes we get it right and sometimes we get it wrong and if so, a flu virus may kill a lot of people.

elaine567 Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 My guess now we know about it, we will be monitoring it for mutations and vaccines will be being researched and prepared "just in case". Vaccine will I guess take at least 18 months. We cannot rush a vaccine that billions will need to be given. Covid-19 is not name of the virus, Covid-19 is the disease it causes. SARS-CoV-2 is the name of the virus 1
elaine567 Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Chinese in Wuhan are still essentially in lock down, only recently they got out for shopping... That is how you beat this virus. Any contact and any opportunity to find a new host then the virus will love it. It doesn't care what we think, it is a "robot" designed to replicate itself ad infinitum and will do what ever it can to maximise that.

(shrug) i only have that story and what my uncle always vents to me about. They need a DOCTOR where they can get one at any walk in clinic. SMH They aren't taking advantage because its free. If your friends condition was tolerable then she would have to wait but it wouldn't cost her anything. Three months is not a long time to wait if she wasn't dying or could die from whatever it is she had. A friend of mine was just this year diagnosed with breast cancer and her experiencewas the same as mine. My experience was 10 years ago. My husband just waited six months for a knew replacement he was in some pain while waiting but it wasn't life threatening. He was treated very well while in the hospital and it didn't cost us anything.. We can have some wait times and I myself have complained about the emergency room wait times and people having to wait on stretchers for a bed if they are sick enough to be admitted but it's still better than losing your home in order to have the money for a surgery or like what I've heard where people have to give up a medicine they need but can't afford like what goes on in the Us where there isn't equal care for all. justwhoiam Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 (edited) Soldiers in Spain have found shocking scenes: nursing homes abandoned and people dead in their beds. They are investigating. Edited March 25, 2020 by justwhoiam 1 2
justwhoiam Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 (edited) Weird things happening... pirates are among us. Germany had ordered masks, and they ended up in Kenya. We had ordered masks, and Czech Republic kept them for themselves and then said they will compensate us. I guess we'll later see a modern version of Nuremberg trials. My Province is in shut down for 3 weeks, all companies, industries, commerce have closed and only emergency services are active.

If you are sick and need care you will have it from A to Z without having to disburse one cent. My mother had breast cancer and there was no wait for her treatment and no wait for her breasts reconstruction. If you have something that is not an emergency 'like some absominal surgery' then yes you may have to wait a couple of months, it's not a first come first serve, it goes in order of priorities.
carhill Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 https://www.health.ny.gov/regulations/task_force/reports_publications/docs/ventilator_guidelines_faqs.pdf Quote Q: Can the State stockpile as many ventilators as would be needed in a severe pandemic? A:Even if New York State purchases additional ventilators, the demand would quickly outpace supply in a severe pandemic. No matter how many ventilators are available, in a severe pandemic there will be shortages because so many people will be sick at the same time. In addition, even with enough ventilators, a sufficient number of trained staff may not be available to operate them, particularly because health care workers will be among the ill new york governor in 2015? Andrew Cuomo 1

Is that a criteria? most of us have just one story, but i don't think it should be a deterrent from sharing it. Do you? Just like when she shared her story and you shared yours.. just b/c you each had one story, did not in my view, diminish the value of that story. Why would you feel the need to diminish mine? Our list is much shorter. No restaurants, dentists and vets are only available for serious emergencies, manufactures are down except for those converting to making hand sanitizers and medical devices, etc.

I made 1 trip to the US, I visited Jackson Mississippi, should I make an opinion of the US based on that visit......I don't think so.
amaysngrace Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 So I just read my county has six cases of Coronavirus and two of the six are New York residents. I’m glad they’re getting help and all but it seems a little messed up that they chanced infecting people from there to here, not to mention the ones who need to care for them now. Do they really think they’re that important? I guess they do. They aren't going to make friends here. That’s for shore.

justwhoiam Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 1. China is now infected with hantavirus transmitted by rodents. I can't take that. No, I really can't. Let's isolate China for heaven's sake. It's a total s-ithole. 2. Japan finally announced they're postponing Olympics to next year. Thank goodness. Venice was smart enough to cancel the Carnival, just imagine what would have happened if they had held it. Crowds from all over the world... So very wise decision. Plus, many athletes can't exercise right now.
Azincourt Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Read somewhere only that now the virus has 2 new symptoms. The sudden loss of the sense of olfact. and the sudden loss of the sense of taste.
justwhoiam Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 News from China in Focus: hantavirus has a mortality rate of 30% for those infected. And according to sources, 60,000 Chinese from Wuhan left immediately before the province lockdown. Most of them stayed within China, but many spread around the world, US included.
